If the electricity is used up, the indicator light will only light up after charging for a period of time. please try to fully charge it for 4 hours and then check whether it works.

Do you have to remove it to close the umbrella?

Yes, it needs to come off to close the umbrella. But it is EXTREMELY easy to put on and take off.

It is not waterproof. You'd better take it off when it's going to rain.
