Are the brushes on top (for under the nails) very stiff?

The bristles are pretty stiff. They will scrub your under nails pretty well, but they’re much stiffer than boar’s bristle (for instance).

This is definitely not the brush for a manicure or pedicure. It is an excellent brush for cleaning both fingernails and toenails. I would suggest getting something with much softer bristles. This brush is great for cleaning before cuticle cream is put on, but not after. Hope this helps.

The bristles are made of stiff nylon fiber.

What is the recommended way to sanitize/clean the brush after use?

I haven't actually *cleaned* my brush. I use it regularly to clean my hands & nails after working in the garden. I let it air dry on its side so the moisture doesn't *sit* in the wood. It seems to stay clean with regular use of liquid hand soap & a good rinse. If I was cleaning grease off my hands I guess I'd use dish detergent to loosen the grease. Hope that helps.
