better redesign that original 10-cup pitcher!
same great pitcher, but handle design is more robust and better design attaching to plastic pitcher (see pics to compare old and new handle design). need to buy new one because the poor design of original model, which was about 4-5 years old....the base of handle where its attaches began to crack and started to break away, repaired with some flex tape and loctite glue, got an extra year out of it but crack reopened again....time for a new one. pleasant surprise with new handle design, glad they improved it....only negative difference from old one is when pouring with full amount of water filtered it tends to glug, glug, glug and splash a bit more when water leaves the spout, but might reduce over time. (FYI i dont use the lid, find it inconvenient when filling to capacity, so might be less glug with lid on). Also hope the white rubber seal around upper lip of cone doesn't discolor as bad as the old one did over time, despite frequent cleanings and attempts to remove discolor with bleach pastes like soft scrub. overall love the new pitcher, highly recommmend (especially at a used price under $40, which this one was, practically brand new), just wish it were glass instead of plastic like the smaller pitcher, maybe one day Soma will make it out of glass instead.

Love this water filter!
I'm not sure why this product got so many negative reviews - my boyfriend and I love our Soma filter! We just moved into an apartment together and my boyfriend swore by Brita pitchers, but I came across this Soma pitcher instead and I'll admit that a huge reason for purchasing it was the design. It looks super sleek and matches our white kitchen and bamboo accents perfectly. It holds 10 cups of water, which is plenty for us two! I refill it after every use out of habit, but it's plenty enough so that it's not annoying if my boyfriend uses it and forgets to refill, you know? We're from NJ and we don't notice any extra chlorine taste or that our water tastes weird/off at all. We both think that this filter works great and gives us quality drinking water! I noticed a lot of the reviews were about mold build up around the top and the confusion about cleaning the pitcher. We've been using ours for about 3 weeks now, and I haven't noticed any type of mold buildup yet. But if you go on Soma's website, they have very helpful videos explaining how to clean your filter and especially detach that part that a lot of these reviews complain about! :) Overall, we're very happy with our Soma pitcher. For the price, function, and design - I'd highly recommend! Plus you don't have to replace the filter for 4 months..beautiful!!

Expensive, Pretty, Useless
TLDR: This is an aggressive waste of your money. Pro: It is pretty Con: Literally everything it is supposed to accomplish, it sucks at. It is $40, who knows how expensive these very specific filters are, I didn't bother to keep this long enough to need to replace it. Also, the filter it did come with, right in its own sealed little pouch, had charcoal/filtering particles falling out of the filter. Where the particles are supposed to be. They are supposed to be inside. They were not. Did I have the option to return this? Yes. I did try to make it work, try to make sure that I wasn't being fussy, but no, I was not. This is just garbage. I ended up donating this about 2 months after I got it (cleaned and dried it out beforehand of course). For some reason, my account reminded me that I made this purchase forever ago, and that prompted me to write this because I don't want that for you. Please buy literally anything else. Edit Oct 2023: this popped up AGAIN through my account, and it made me mad all over again. Now it is $44 AND still sucks. 2 years later, Iโm still upset with this product. If thereโs something you do today dear reader, I hope it doesnโt involve buying this particular pitcher. Channel my rage. Click away. Take it out of your cart, never look back.

Great tasting water!! Fresh and pure.
I absolutely love this pitcher. For over 13 years, I had a Soma water filter pitcher in my house. It was glass, and we went through that water fast because it was smaller, but good tasting. Just last week, after I ordered this one, the pitcher was left in the freezer it broke. Bittersweet, but a day or so later this one came in, and after setting it up it produced the same delicious water our older one did and more of us can drink it before we have to refill it. It doesn't leak or smell weird and I do plan on testing the water soon to see how good the water quality is. I will update it if necessary, but I am elated and pleased with our bigger pitcher.

Love it but it doesn't last long before it molds and cannot be cleaned
I loved this filter and would order again. The water had a clean taste, and I used it for just over 2 years. However, after about 6 months I noticed the rubber ring seal around the top of the piece you remove to replace the filter had molded. I was able to scrub it and most of it removed, however there is now mold ingrained in the seal that cannot be scrubbed or soaked away. I even used antifungal cleaner on it with no effect. I will not be using mine any longer due to the inability to remove the mold in its entirety. Though there's not much to be said for its longevity, a few positive points are the taste, quick filtering speed, and aesthetic look of the pitcher.

Soma the tasty water!
I have always drank filtered water out of my fridge, and in all honesty am a water snob because I cannot and will not drink tap water. I do not like most of the bottled waters of the world because they all have that plastic yuck flavor to me, so whats a girl to do? Well getting this Soma pitcher was a great start! While it is a plastic pitcher, it does not have the plastic flavored water that usually comes with it. The water tastes well like water! It is super easy to use and it stores well in my fridge door making it that much easier as I do not have to use ice! I will say to take the lid off is sometimes challenging as it has an amazing seal but a little wiggling and it will come off eventually. It is heavy once it is full so young children and elderly individuals or those without great grip strength might have issues with it, but honestly well worth it! The replacement cartridges are easily accessible for purchase and inexpensive, so all in all I highly recommend this pitcher for my fellow water snobs and non-snobs alike! ๏

Pretty but ineffective
I really wanted to love it - it's by far the prettiest water pitcher out there. They also sponsor a water charity whch is admirable. But it's performance leaves a lot to be desired. We had two major issues with it. First, it doesn't pour very well - the water tends to gush out and spill all over unless you are very careful and gentle tipping it over to pour, especially when trying to fill up narrower water bottles. And second and bigger issues - as many have pointed, the filter is probably one of the most underwhelming on the market in terms of what it does. Even on their website there is little information about what the filter does/how it works. Till recently Soma was certified to only filter chlorine, taste and odor. As other have pointed out, in independent tests that filter performed worst in terms of how much chlorine it filters. We didn't independently test it ourselves, but our water (we already have an all-house filter, so this is 3nd filtration) tested quite differently - and not in a good away compared to the brita we used before. Also, after using it for less than 3 months, the plastic housing close to the pouring spout acquired a pale yellowish color on the outside and even though water from the sink was normal color, water in the pitcher became sight yellow (seems to indicate presence of iron - but not sure where that can come from). It seems recently Soma did get their filters certified to NSF 53 as well for copper and mercury to get it a little closer to what most of the competitors are filtering (or claim to be filtering) - but overall it's still mostly a beautiful filter with low performance. If you really want/need your water to be filtered, look elsewhere. We replaced it with acquagear which has been tested to filter all the usual suspects plus lead, fluoride, Chromium-6, chlorine, chloramines and industrial and agricultural runoff.

Love this Water Filter Pitcher!
This water filter is great looking, and delivers great tasting water. We travel quite frequently in an RV, and never know what we are going to get with the taste/quality of our water. By taking this pitcher along, we always know that we will have great tasting, clean water for our needs. The pitcher is easy to use, one just pours the water in the top, and it quickly filters the water. The pitcher is well constructed and I anticipate that it will be with us for years to come.

Doesn't pour cleanly !!
Had this product for a couple of hours, yes it looks great BUT it has driven me crazy that the one design feature to get right is epically wrong, the pouring is slow and spills everywhere. How this product passed design / marketing is beyond me. Returned.

Doesn't do anything
Looks cute but it doesn't actually improve the water quality. It tastes exactly the same as our of the tap. Quite the disappointment.

I enjoy this pitcher very much
I enjoy this pitcher very much, the top flap fill is really convenient and the pitcher is aesthetically pleasing. The water tastes great too, my apartment water has always tasted off, a must buy for picky mouths like mine!

Sadly, not up to normal standards.
While the product in past has worked well, this time it has had no effect on flavour and price of mind of its use. The poor seals to filter the product do not create a true seal and it is useless. Sadly not up to its normal standards. This is our familyโs second Soma water filter jug. The insert in which the filter goes into the jug with does not seal properly and neither does the filter. hen using the water rushes through the sides of both pieces - rendering the system useless.

This unit does the job beautifully.
This unit has met my expectations. Water is smooth-tasting and free of impurities. Easy-fill top works well. Warm-feeling wooden handle is user-friendly. Light-weight for its capacity. Cool filter. Zero issues.
