Can i usr a xl twin matters?

Nope that will be too long Standards twin

How wide is the bed with the slide attached?

The last picture of this loft bed on the Amazon website shows dimensions from which the height of the slide may be calculated as about 38". The length of the slide is given as 64.7". By use of the pythagorean theorem, the distance from the side of the bed to the end of the slide may be calculated as about 52". Adding this distance to the given width of the frame, 42.5", gives a total width of about 95", or about 8 feet.

Can the steps detach easily? Is it hook on/off like the slide? Or are they screwed in?

They attach/detach with a hook, like the slide, so it’s super easy to take them off.

Is there a wood frame at the bottom too if you put a mattress at the bottom as well? One picture shows this, another does not. Nothing in description

This model does not have a bottom frame. It is the loft bed only. I believe there are twin bed model options available, as you allude to. Have a good day!
