Robert L. Norton's fifth edition of DESIGN OF MACHINERY continues the tradition of this best-selling book through its balanced coverage of analysis and design and outstanding use of realistic engineering examples. Through its reader-friendly style of writing, clear exposition of complex topics, and emphasis on synthesis and design, the text succeeds in conveying the art of design as well as the use of modern tools needed for analysis of the kinematics and dynamics of machinery. Topics are explained verbally and visually, often through the use of software, to enhance student understanding. Accompanying each copy of the book is an updated DVD that includes the LINKAGES software package, updated DYNACAM , as well as ENGINE and MATRIX programs. A six-month license for the Working Model program is available for a nominal charge from the website. Additionally, the DVD contains many videos and classroom resources to help instructors and students.

Cheap Pricing.
I rented this, here on Amazon, for $70.00. Considering the buying options I had at my university, this was a savior for me. The cheapest used version of this book we had available was $190.00. I got exactly what I paid for and I'll end up getting some of my money back when I return it โ definitely worth it.

Decent textbook at a decent price
I'm not too far into this book yet, but so far it seems to be a pretty standard undergrad level engineering textbook.I do get annoyed when I have to flip between pages because a figure is on one page and it's description is on another.

Great Book
Had many examples to problems in book that helped understand material. Also had the software needed in the cd in the back of the book that helped you see what you were doing.

One of the worst Engineering books I have used
I am currently a senior working toward me ME degree. This is the worst book that I have had to use. The author references diagrams from chapter 1 when you are in chapter 7, so you are constantly flipping pages back and forth. Not that big of a deal, right? That is what I thought until I actually had to do it. It stinks. There are typos EVERYWHERE in this book. Not to mention that almost 1/4 of the diagrams have at least one mislabeled "element", whether it be a position vector or an incorrectly marked "Omega". Having "omega 2" located on 3 different points of a link system is not correct. They should have been labeled "omega 2", "omega 3"....... I know that the author has been writing text books for over 20 years. It is sad when an engineering student that is trying to grasp kinematic concepts is constantly finding inconsistency in the book.

Iโm still keeping it after my course!
This book is great and perfect for quick reference after graduate still. A must get for Mechanical Engineers who like machinery design.

VERY GOOD BOOK
I got this cook for my design of machinery class at Purdue Univversity. It's a great book! I learned a lot with it and it comes also with a CD for more resourcing

If you don't have a laptop with DVD drive, contact McGraw Hill before purchasing it
Great book. However it should provide a flash drive with the content in the CD. Not all computers have DVD drive nowadays. That is frustrating since I can't have access to all the software included
