One big bag, I use a 1/4 cup and scoop into the filter cartridge works great

Can I use this for a fish tank filter, instead of regular carbon?

Not really, the beads are very small and would likely leak into the tank, and most filters wouldn't give enough flow, also with fish making more pollutants it wouldn't be effective - as part of an RODI the water is forced though the beads for maximum effect and depending on the system 50-100 gal per day is about average, and after a few hundred gallons need to replace the beads. carbon, and maybe softening pillows (fresh water), or rechargeable media, would be more cost effective. most RODI have carbon for one of their prefilters. I use several carbon, and other pillows, in my tank filters or sump. and use these in my RODI to keep pure water going into the tank
