Does this pad protects the table from heat completely?

Even with this pad, I never place anything  directly from a heat source  onto the table without additional protection  (i.e. trivet, hotpads). A hot cast iron pan retains intense heat for a long time.  This pad may protect the table,  but I don't want to test the theory and discover I'm wrong. I also think the plastic top of the pad would be damaged and distorted by extreme heat.  That being said,  hot dishes from the microwave, warmed plates, etc, will not melt the plastic nor damage the table surface.  As with anything, use common sense and err on the side of caution.

For marble top conference table; what color?  Will occasionally use for design center samples.  Do you think this pad will work for our needs?
