What a Nice Iron
This iron is unlike any iron I have ever owned. There is no temperature dial. It has a button for fabrics that require less heat and there is a button for high heat. Both lower and higher heat can be used with steam. At first I wasn't sure about this temperature setup but it works perfectly. You can dry iron by turning off the steam button. All buttons are lit. Red when heating and green when the temperature is reached with a beep too. This is the first iron I have owned with a steam generator. It provides constant steam flow when you have your hand on the handle. When you remove your hand the generator stops making steam. It has a pulsing sound and feel in the handle while pumping steam. There is absolutely no spitting or leaking water. It holds quite a bit of water and steams for quite a while. When I first opened it and saw no temperature dial or even an off switch I thought we'll "we will see". I was pleasantly surprised. It also has auto off functions too. I consider this to be way above your top of the line irons that use gravity feed for making steam. This is a steam machine. There is no need for a burst of steam function because the generator makes constant steam.

Good quality iron with steam!
I love this iron. My first one stopped steaming and started leaking after a few months but it also took a plunge to the floor so Iโm hoping it was because of that. The steaming helps with wrinkles. It is a heavier iron but I personally like the heaviness.

Wonderful Iron
I love the Reliable Velocity irons. My first Velocity was the 200IR and it lasted me without any problems for four years. That is incredible to me because before that I couldn't get an iron to last longer than six months to a year. I'm a quilter and sewer of all things, so I iron every day. My 200IR finally gave out on me and when I saw this one, I decided to buy it. I've had it just a couple of weeks, but it is proving to be just as wonderful as my 200IR. This iron is heavy for anyone who may find that to be a problem. I put it on my kitchen scale and it weighed with the water tank full at just over 4 pounds. This doesn't bother me as I don't have any problems with my arms such as arthritis or joint pain. I just want to add that factor in to the review for those who may be concerned about it. With this 230IR, I do love that the steam is engaged by just placing your hand on the handle. Of course you can shut the steam off when not in use. You have a couple of options for steam, one being the auto for lighter steam and the other turbo for lots of steam. You do get lots of steam with these irons and it's one reason I love them so much. I also love the soleplate that glides so smoothly along any fabric. This iron also has the auto-shutoff option and that itself can be bypassed for many of us who prefer not to have the automatic shutoff. I highly recommend these irons. To me their price tag is worth it for a "reliable" iron. I've tried many irons in my lifetime, but these are my favorite.

Best Iron!
Love this iron so far and hope it will last. I've been through all of the major and minor brands. This is more of a steamer type iron. It works really well. The previous comment about the beeping to tell you it is shutting off at 8 minutes CAN be bypassed. Just hold down the steam button for 5 secs and it will stay on indefinitely. There are two temp controls. Turbo for linen/cottons/high temp and Auto for everything else. I'm only using it for quilting so this model was fine for me. I don't need 8 Temps like the top of the line has on it. Just Turbo for me. I do a lot of tshirt quilts and was so surprised how it fused on P44F interfacing and did not need an additional damp rag which saved me that dreaded extra step in fusing. It was fused on well simply with the iron. Also it is touch sensitive for steam. You hold handle and it knows to release the steam. Maybe the other reviewer didn't have her hand on it the right way but it definitely produces great steam. Now it just needs to last longer than the past irons I've owned. Cross fingers and will update if it dies.

My Not-So-Reliable Iron
It did not make even that first little snort of steam...ever. I researched irons looking for some specific things. Lots of steam. Quick heat-up. Large water tank. No beeping warnings. No auto-shut off. I'm a quilter and auto shut off is a nuisance although for good reason nearly every iron has it. Reliable 230 IR has a way to bypass that though. It's rated very high for steam output. Beeps like crazy though. But, the problem is that the one I received did not get hot, therefore did not make steam. it made a clicking noise, beeped like the Road Runner and turned itself off just fine. But it did not get hot---not even a tiny bit warm I contacted the company through Amazon and got emails that they were closed from Christmas to New Years. The iron was purchased in November to be my Christmas present, so after Christmas we were at the end of the company's 30 day return policy. After New Year's I was told I was in the window for a return, repair and reship program. No. I did not want this iron. I asked again for a return auth and shipping label for this iron that had never worked. I got a shipping label--I was to pay to ship this iron back (to Canada!) myself. No. I finally did get a post paid shipping label and a refund. I was disappointed with the customer service and the lack of interest in their product that was a lemon or a dud...whatever you might want to call it. I went to Consumer Reports then and purchased their top rated steam iron--a Rowenta--and it's a good one.

Irons like a son of a gun.
Gotta say, this iron is confusing AND expensive as far as irons go. Maybe better to call it a steamer and it ROCKS at steam output. Unless I missed it somewhere, there is no temperature button! WHAT? A friend recommended it and my iron broke so I decided to try it. My first pass was ironing a heavy denim shirt and it made quick work of it. Flattened a bumpy placket effortlessly. There are two settings, Auto and Turbo. What does THAT mean? There is also a "squirt" button that will sprinkle an area as you go. It did a great job on the heavy shirt and I haven't tried it on anything delicate yet. I don't know how it will do with a silk blouse but I plan to proceed with great caution and hope to be pleasantly surprised. It is relatively lightweight and pretty straight ahead apart from the quirks. Use distilled water.

It REALLY steams!
I have had this iron for 8 months and absolutely love it. I am a quilter and pressing is pretty important to me. I have used Oliso, Rowenta, Shark, Panasonic, and other lessor brands. The Reliable is in a category all by itself. I did not know there was an iron that worked this well. The steam is continuous and it does not leak or spit. It is a must for quilting. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it stopped heating yesterday. I have filed a warranty claim but do not yet I know how or if it is going to be handled. I ordered a new one today so I will not be without it during the downtime. It is important enough to me to have a backup. The price is less than the Olisos and Rowentas that I have owned. However, replacing it every 8 months might be a deal breaker. Update - Reliable replaced the 230IR with a 240IR. Four stars have become FIVE! There are not enough superlatives to describe this iron. I use it primarily for quilting. It steams on demand with no seam shine. My daughter, however, comes over to steam her kids outfits for special occasions and/or photo shoots. She knows to use it here since I canโt be without it while it is on loan. I did purchase a second one while mine was out for repair. Thought it would take much longer than it did. Reliable was VERY prompt on the replacement from Canada. If there was a negative aspect to this iron, it would be the 8 minute shutoff. Eight minutes is short for quilting but overriding the shutoff would not be a good idea for me. Oliso has a quilterโs edition with a 30 minute shutoff. It would be nice but I wouldnโt give up the rest of the perks for that. Maybe Reliable will come out with a Quilterโs Edition!

Expensive but worths the price
OMG! This iron is a game-changer! I decided to buy a new one after my previous iron burned my silk shirt. After doing a lot of research, I found this one, and it works perfectly. It leaves my silk and satin shirts impeccably smooth with no wrinkles. It also has a turbo mode, which is useful for cotton and thick fabrics. Although it was quite expensive, Iโm totally happy with my purchase!

Amazing iron
I was quite amazed that there is no heat settings other than regular or turbo, steam or no steam. I am a quilter and this iron is by far the best I have ever used. The steam cycle uses a lot of water, but distilled water is not expensive.

Good steam iron
Good steam iron, totally automatic. Quite heavy, presses really well. The iron beeps after 8 minutes of non use but there is an override (supposedly) but itโs just a placebo and there is no override.

Super Iron!
I upgraded from an older model that served me well for 15 years. This model is light, easy to use and powers on when touched. No problems wondering whether you forgot to turn it off.

It spits out blobs of water
After ironing 2 ladies shirts and a bit of cotton fabric, my ironing board cover was wet. Tried various settings and always got blobs of water. On top of that, it was slow to heat and was not ready when the ready lights lit up. Sent it back and bought a $21 Black+Decker IR06VC Black+Decker Easy Steam Compact Iron, Professional EvenSteam Non-Stick Soleplate, Blue/White, IR06VC, Blue. So far it does fine. .
