Overall, I think this is great. My dog uses it and it allows her to go in and out whenever she pleases. Installation was simple and I, as a young woman, did it by myself. The only downfall is that you cannot lock the door that you're shutting into this extension piece. It would be nice but as an alternative, I have a stick at the other end of the screen door to prevent it from even opening. FYI - I have this piece and then my screen door that closes to it. Then my glass door opens and closes normally. Anyway, it works perfectly fine and the stick helps alleviate any concern of someone trying to rob me. It's pretty sturdy for what it is. Slightly flimsy but overall sturdy. But that's because it's 1 long piece. AND my dog is a 50 english bulldog and the dog flap size is perfect for her. I can't imagine a "real extra large" size dog like a german shepherd, lab or even a retriever fitting through the flap. Maybe they could since they are long hair dogs whose bodies appear to be bigger than they actually because of all that hair. But my dog is a little bowling ball and it fits her comfortably with some extra room to not hit the sides or top/bottom when going in and out. The flap is pretty good quality too. It doesn't dangle and flap open/close with the wind. There's a metal piece that almost acts like a magnet or paper weight to make sure that flap stays down when not used. Lastly, my dog started using this immediately. It took a few rounds of treats to get her in and out but that was it. Simple. She uses it all throughout the day as she pleases. And for reals, lastly, I bought this one instead of the other ones because of lower cost. I think it had fewer reviews but they were decent. Hope this helps.

Really works great but I had to return the small size for the medium option as my cat is 18 lb XL 😄😄😄 I first tried installing this on the side of the slider that opens but the top track of the door frame was too narrow. It mounted easily in the opposite (fixed) side of slider - just had to remove two screws from the brackets where the sliding door was attached to the door jam. First photo is of the bracket that was previously screwed into the door jam (there was another one higher up that was also removed). The product is very well made and seems sturdy. It’s made with glass, not plastic. This product is useful for renters because it can be removed without leaving any damage or holes.

I bought this with some trepidation after reading the reviews. On the plus side, I did not feel it was poor quality and was what I expected in that regard. It looks nice installed and I was pleasantly surprised to find the glass is actual glass and it has been tinted. Negatives would be that in a strong wind, the flap broke free of the magnets. In Florida afternoon storms are daily in the summer so I would have to put the plastic slider over the flap if a storm was expected. My personal experience with the install was that the door was heavy and awkward but I managed to get it in place. It fits loosely on the track though so I had to wedge a large bolt between the door and track so it would be secure. If not wedged in, the top right side listed. I think this is a house issue as my house is old. I did have to remove the lock thing from the slider track as there is no socket in the door to receive it. Additionally, the foam provided was insufficient for my needs as the top of the door had a 1/4" gap that increased to 3/4" near the bottom when the sliding door was pulled to. As I didn't notice a draft problem on the slider side, I used the provided draft stoppers on the door door to provide some coverage for the gap. I then had to go to a big box store and purchase additional foam in a larger size which is still insufficient to fill the large end of the gap. I also purchased more stick on draft stoppers and placed them on the outside of the sliding door so that between the inside and outside draft stoppers the gaps are covered to prevent insect and creepy crawly intrusion. I also purchased air conditioner foam and cut it to fit in the space between the dog door and the side of the slider tract as it wasn't exactly flush.I find that this door will be a great incentive for me to keep the weight off as there is little room for the humans to fit through. I have to pass through sideways. All in all, a frustrating purchase. The dogs, four between ages 8 and 10, are learning to enter and exit. It is to tall for the chihuahua; as expected. First picture shows the gap, second the bolt and the third the finished, for now, install.

For the price this thing is pretty well built. I was surprised. Be prepared to buy extra insulation to put around it as they don't give you enough. For me this is just a temporary solution until our puppy grows to full size and we can put the appropriate size permanent doggie door in the wall. As a temporary solution this door is just fine. The little flap is holding up well. I use the little plastic cover/lock over the doggie door at night to keep the nighttime cold out (to be expected as this only has 1 flap).Little tip.. Like others mentioned if you are right at 77-5/8" height I had a 'lip' on my patio door top and bottom and I could not for the life of me get the thing to go in the door track as it was just too tall.. however if you remove the little plastic spacers at the top there are screws and I was able to unscrew it and remove the aluminium piece that moves and up and down. Then I could put the door in and slide the aluminium piece on when the main door was in sitting the track. Not perfect, I had to use a little duck tape to hold it together since I could not put the screws back in but for a temporary solution for 6-9 months its just fine.I'm happy - our puppy started using it within a day and its been a great time saver not having to take her out all the time now she just goes out herself when she wants to go potty.

We had to alter the height of the pet door a tad. Even though we measured it, and thought it would barely fit, it was a little too tall even with squishing it down as much as possible. We put brush type weatherstripping on the inside vertical edges (both sides) of our sliding glass door where it mates with the pet door so we have a good air and noise seal.. We also put thick black rubber weather stripping on 3 sides of the pet door where it touches the top, bottom, and side of the house - we did this on the inside and outside of the pet door. The only thing I didn't like was the two-piece weather stripping that you put on at the back edge of your door where it brushes back and forth against the fixed glass door. One continuous piece would have been nicer. I recommend overlapping them a bit. I had to fix a tiny gap in mine with clear tape. We added a slider bolt lock to the top of the door. You can see it in the photos. When we leave on vacation or for extended periods, we are going to add a bar/pole in the track.We left the magnetic strip off the bottom of the pet door for a few days. Once our cat was confidently going in and out, we put the magnetic strip back in, and he figured it out right away! No magnetic strip is going to stop him!!

Excellent quality item, except for one issue as noted below. The Ideal door has a simple flap that is either open or shut, which is fine if you only have one cat and you are onsite to insert or remove the panel that prevents entry. However, we have two cats each with different needs. We have an electronic cat door that we can program so that both cats can come in at any time, neither cat can go out when it's dark, and only one cat can go out in the daytime (other cat is inside only). We removed the pet door from the bottom section of the Ideal patio panel. The 6 screws came out easily without damaging the plastic panel. (We removed and installed the panel several times in the course of figuring out how we were going to modify the Ideal door. Then we had a local plastics company create two lexan panels with the cutout and screw holes needed for our electronic cat door. We used clear silicone to bond the clear plastic panels to the outside and inside of the patio panel. Then we inserted the electronic cat door and screwed it in place. The only complaint I have is that the patio panel is slightly bowed along the edge that meets up with the sliding door, making it very difficult to configure the weatherstripping to make a good seal. I didn't take a star off for that, because it was my fault for not checking the fit before altering the door. (The old Ideal Pet Door, which was too narrow for the electronic cat door, does have a straight edge.) So my recommendation to buyers is to carefully check that the edge is straight before doing any customization. Obviously I can't return it now that I've glued the lexan panels to the door. The workaround for the poor fit is to buy some very thick but pliable weatherstripping and to install the provided lock or a separate drop bar, applying a bit of pressure to close the gap. We are renting, so we got permission to install the drop bar (which requires drilling into the sliding door frame).

This item does not work nearly as well as the videos and instructions would have you believe.The top part works great as far as being spring loaded and fitting in the door as far as height. However, the top doesn't fit in the top track at all, there is a significant gap on both sides and wobbles badly. My fix was to squeeze the aluminum tabs together so that they would fit into the small track at the top. You can see this in one of the pictures.The bottom fits very well on the raised track that it sits on. However, when I slid the cat door all the way to the edge of the frame, there was a huge gap to deal with. It's as if the cat door wasn't built straight, there was well over a quarter inch on the bottom and inside the frame edge. I used the cardboard packaging door corners to shim up both of those areas. There are pictures of this as well.After all this extra work, I got it all to fit perfectly so I put the foam weather sealant on. The sealant is .375 thick and kinda hard. The sealant would be much better if it was .5 thick and softer so that when you slid the sliding door against it, it would make a better seal. As it is now, you can see several gaps from top to bottom. I'm going to get a different sealant to fix this.As far as noise, it seems to filter some of it out but because of the gaps in the foam sealant as well as the rubber flap, there is more noise than there would be if we shut the sliding door. It's a non issue though even though this is in our living room. We don't even notice the extra noise.After all this, it looks good. All the work I had to do isn't evident unless you are really close and actually inspecting it. A regular glance would tell you that it fits perfectly.Now I just have to get my cat to understand it, which she's having a hard time doing. She's not the brightest kitty but I love her. ❤️❤️💥💥

This type of door is very expensive. However, it is a very necessary and useful item that allows your dog or cat to enter or leave the house as they need to. This reduces the possibility of accidents and eliminates the need for a person to let them in/ out if need. The size of the door will fit well in almost any sliding door is relatively easy to install. This door will require that you buy more insulation. The reason is the insulating ability of the included insulation strip is totally inadequate to work well and is impossible to seal, at least it was in my case. You can easily get more insulation on amazon or at a local hardware store if necessary for about $5.00.I have had this door for a short period of time and it really works well it was a slight challenge to teach the dogs to enter and exit on their own. I just used lots of treats. I put their food and water outside after teaching them how to go in/out and that the swinging door wouldn't hurt them. Training will require SMALL BABY steps for them to learn this task. if they are having trouble break the behavior down into the smallest possible steps. For example, just sticking a head inside gets treats and lots of praise. Make a really big deal out of the smallest thing they do correctly. Then build on that success. Eventually, you will have them going in and out on their own. It just takes a little time and persistence. REMEMBER SSSSSSSLLOWW it down you are not in a race. Short training secessions are more effective than long ones. Don’t train longer than 1/2 hr at a time and always end on something they can do successfully, then quit.I didn’t bother with installing the locking feature. My German Shepherd and Pit Bull take backyard security pretty seriously and the lock wouldn’t have fit anyway.Unfortunately, I won’t be able to write many more reviews simply because I simply can’t afford to buy all the items I would like to review. Therefore, this will require me to limit my writing to just a few items as my finances permit. I will still do honest and forthright reviews, just not as many as I would like. I took off a star because of the fore mentionedinsulation issue the door block needs to be more robust so it would prevent breakage and the high price. All of these things are very easy to rectify and the cost for these improvements would negligible.

I was torn with spending more choosing the more expensive insulated one, kinda wishing I did. In order to fit my door I took the piece off that adjusts for different heights then it fit perfectly. Literally takeoff 2 screws. There’s a draft around the door so I may try silicone on both sides and I’m going to purchase a 2nd flap as it suggests to help with draft. It does only come with one weather strip. You most definitely need 2. Th hardware that a sliding patio door uses that’s on the inside of the door frame stops it from having a tight fit so for now I put bath insulation in to stop the draft on that side. It’s way better then a swinging door in a screen with the whole thing open. After insulating where the door meets it putting a stick to push the door against it, siliconed around the frame of where the plastic is and adding insulation along glass from top to bottom and a piece to stop wind from coming through between doors I have successfully stopped the drafts. So far it has gotten as low as -7 and it was still warm in my livingroom. I did leave an updated pic of end result.

This item came quickly and was packaged very well, it was a little larger than expected and though I had measured my doorframe it just barely fit. In the end once I got it into place it has worked very well. The materials are sturdy and it is very attractive, I have visitors who do not even notice it is there until I point it out to them. The weather stripping that came in the package did not stick to the frame very well, so I replaced it with another kind and it has helped. I live in a moderate climate so the draft around the edges is not that noticeable. I am also able to lock the sliding door in place so I feel that it is very safe and secure, you cannot open the door from the outside.The best part is that the cats go in and out as they please and I no longer have to get up constantly and be their doorman. I also like that there is a cover for the door flap, so I can keep them inside as needed.
