ROCKISDEAD is the visceral, 11 track debut album from LA-based, female-fronted rock band Dorothy. ROCKISDEAD comes on the heels of the bands self-titled 2014 EP which drew the attention of Rolling Stone who named them one of their 50 Best New Artists of 2014, and "a (band) you need to know." ROCKISDEAD includes the tracks "Wicked Ones" and the current single "Raise Hell" which have featured in promos for Pandora, HBO shows, Levi's, Acura, Orange Is The New Black, Now You See Me 2 and more! Review: Yet another rocker that took me... - by surprise, she rocks. Came across Dorothy well after she was hitting the world. I would say she's n her band are pretty solid. Rock bands with lady lead singers isn't new, but when they are good, they better be good, like Halestorm. Dorothy is real close. hopefully she gets better over the next few records Review: I have come to love this album more with each play-through - I have come to love this album more with each play-through, and I play it all the time. Dorothy has a lovely, bluesy, powerful voice full of attitude and verve, and even though such a voice is intimidating to sing along with, the energy is such that you'll do it anyway and stop judging yourself. The rock influences make Raise Hell a true anthem, the blues influences pull you straight to a smoky nightclub with Shelter, and there's nothing like driving down the freeway to Whiskey Fever (which is as close to drinking and driving as anyone should get ;) ). The only criticism I can think of is that each of the songs needs more substance - at least one more verse, rather than so many repetitions of the chorus. I will definitely follow the band in the future, and my digital download was worth every penny.

DOROTHY IS AWESOME! GREAT MUSIC!
I just recently discovered DOROTHY on Pandora. I absolutely loved the music; loving every song that was played. I had to hurry up and get on Amazon.com, so I could find and purchase this DOROTHY: ROCK IS DEAD album. I just had to have it! It is an awesome album! I love every song on this album. This is a must have album, for anyone who loves awesome Rock music, with a little bit of Blues, and a Female Front Lady doing all the singing! Dorothy Martin is the singer, and DOROTHY is the name of the band.

Rock is Most Certainly Not Dead
After having this in my collection for awhile and after many plays, I have to say one of the complaints of this album is that it is very short. I wish it was longer. My top songs of the album: Medicine Man -- When I listen to this album, I immediately go to this song. There's just something about it that calls to me over all the other songs. Raise Hell -- This gets played usually 2nd. Whiskey Fever -- This can sometimes get played 2nd. Raise Hell and Whiskey Fever are as you can see equal to each other. The other songs on the album get played at different times. The only song on the album that kinda sort of annoys me is the first one "Kiss It" with the annoying electronic clap thing intro to the song. I cringe every time I hear it, which makes this song become a reluctant song to listen to. This is the reason for one of the stars to get knocked down. Dorothy has done amazing job on the album. The title may say Rockisdead, but it most certainly *is not* dead.

Dorothy shows rock is NOT dead!!!
As an old coot that back in the day saw hundreds of concerts and still love the "crank it up loud and rock" approach to music this is a great band. Good sounds without the overblownness of some bands. Love the voice, love the beat and love the crank it up to appreciate it more music they put out. Keep it up.

turbo-charged swamp rock
Dorothy Martin is one of a group of emerging female vocalists fronting rock bands (Taylor Momsen, Brittany Howard, Clairy Browne) whose musical influences are Janis Joplin and Grace Slick rather than MTV pop divas. They're making some of the best music heard in many moons. "ROCKISDEAD" is down and dirty blues rock you'd hear on Saturday night in a Southern bar. Dorothy Martin could blow the paint off a billboard. Check it out. Hey! Dorothy! Release your EP on CD. I don't have a turntable and I don't like mp3's. (3 of the songs on the EP also appear on the "ROCKISDEAD" CD. The 2 that don't are "Wild Fire" and "Bang Bang Bang.")

Lucky find!
OMG! I love rock and roll, blues, ballads, and this album is a masterful fusion of them and not a clunker among them. Dorothy's voice is wonderful and the songs memorable, in fact, they stay in my head long after I've finished listening. The album has a dark edge to it, the lyrics are potent and rebellious. Love it! Warning! listening to this album while driving is not advised as the gas pedal has a tendency to move toward the floor.

This is honestly one of the coolest new bands that I have heard. they truly are in a realm on their own in terms of genre. they have a truly garage band feel with a little bit of grit, rock and roll, and old school slide blues tossed in their to create something that is truly unique. as for the vinyl itselft, it came as a white record and came with a free digital download of the album much to my pleasant surprise. Great quality and great band that I highly recommend and highly anticipate much more from.
