Qooble Silicone Mate Gourd with Bombilla Drinking Straw for Yerba Mate Tea Herbal Infusions (Fire Red)

I love this mate gourd! I have never drank mate except for trying a friend's, so I don't know how it compares to other gourds. It is very lightweight, and it is flexible. It isn't squishy as I have seen in some reviews, it just has a nice bend to it when you try to fold it. This will be nice for travel, and if you drop it, it isn't damaged by the fall. I got the red, a nice cherry color that isn't too overwhelming. The gourd gets warm but not hot. The warmth is very nice in the winter! I'm very excited about the easy cleaning that comes with the silicone. I'm drinking out of it as I write this :) The bombilla doesn't get too hot if your water is the correct temperature. I notice just a few tea leaves coming through, but that may be the tea itself's fault, or else my own for setting it up incorrectly. Overall, a nicely sized, comfortable, modern, easy gourd for mate! I ordered four of these cute gourds in different colors, not realizing that they were almost as flexible as bathtub rubber ducks. I worry that the flexibility of these gourds might cause guests to accidentally spill hot mate (it's like hot tea) on themselves. Other than this scalding hazard, the gourds are fine. If you can't live with their extreme flexibility or the scalding hazard, you can let your grandchildren play with them in your bathtub.

While it's true I love yerba mate, I don't think this gourd made a difference in taste. In fact, I am back to doing without it, simply because I love the smoky odor of freshly brewed mate, and this device won't give you that. Also, it is very small in size.

This is my first Bombilla and I am having fun with it. I find it to be the perfect size for me, and I love the straw. I was a little concerned about it being silicone instead of a hard gourd but I do not find that to be a problem. Having a choice of colors is a plus too!
