Set in the current day, this is the final book in Morris Gleitzman's series that began with Once , continued with Then and is . . . Now . Felix is a grandfather. He has achieved much in his life and is widely admired in the community. He has mostly buried the painful memories of his childhood, but they resurface when his granddaughter Zelda comes to stay with him. Together they face a cataclysmic event armed only with their gusto and loveโan event that helps them achieve salvation from the past, but also brings the possibility of destruction. Now is one of Kirkus Reviews' Best Children's Books of 2012 Review: Great Third Book - This was a unique turn in the book series. In this book Felix is an old man with a granddaughter named Zelda. She is named after the young girl Felix tried to save and who was brutal murdered by the Nazis. In this book Felix lives in Australia. His granddaughter loves her grandfather but questions some of the things he does. She doesnโt understand that a part of him is still living in and dealing with a traumatic past. Like her grandfatherโs past, Zelda has a bully problem. His pasts experiences and memories help them both. When a brush fire breaks out a lot is lost, while a lot is gained. I found two interesting things about this fire. One was that it was based on an actual fire that occurred in 2009 and the second was that at the time of this post Australia is going through another traumatic brush fire. This is the third book in this series. At one point the author had planned to make this the end of a trilogy. As we all know, when our characters are not finished telling their story they must be heard. Because of that, there are three more books in this series. Once again I will say that this is a must read series Review: Quick-Read for 13 yr old - My 13 yr-old daughter read all 3 of the series w/in a 24-hr period & absolutely loved the books! She said she cried knowing that these were realistic scenarios & hoped more people would learn from history โin order to not repeat itโ. Very pleased with my purchase(s)โฆeven though they were quick reads for my child.

Read last in the series!
I would recommend Ending the series with this book . This setting is more current times while the others seem to be continuing the story from the beginning

Not as Good as Books 1 and 2 But Still Excellent
I loved the first two books. This one took me a minutes to figure out how far into the future the series had jumped. Still excellent. A good conclusion to an epic tale. It will pull at your heartstrings. Highly recommend.

Great series
My middle schooler loves historical fiction and took to this author quickly. She loves the series and continues to look for books written by this author! I am going to read the series as well because she loved it so much!

The Journey of a boy
"Everybody deserves to have something good in their life. At least... Once." Once by Morris Gleitzman is a tragic story set in the time of the holocaust and World War II. It's about a boy named Felix, who escapes from an orphanage to find his parents, but little does he know about the murderous Nazis. Describing all of the horror and terrible events taking place in the streets, the author made me feel as if I could see the setting when I closed my eyes. I liked this book because of the suspense. Was Felix going to die? I had to keep reading to find out. You will too. Caydin Parker

Great book
Great read. But I miss the original Zelda. I'm going to read the 4th book and last installment. Hopefully I won't cry as much as I did with thr 1st two books.

Worthwhile trilogy.
A great novelization of horrible events. The trilogy shows the depth of the effect on one person who lost everything and lived to rebuild a life.

I looooooooved it!
I liked it because it was good quality(the book and the actual story) and it was just fabulous! IF you want to read this i recommend reading the two books before this one so it makes sense: "Once" is the first one, and "then" is the second one. Have fun!

It feels a bit strange 'loving' a book about the Holocaust, but I suppose you have to put it in context. Most books on this subject are aimed at slightly older children, so this is the first example I've seen where the language is accessible to primary school children. My son is nine and he would definitely be able to access this from a reading point of view - I'm less sure that he would understand the back-story because he doesn't have the general knowledge of the Holocaust to allow him to understand what's 'really' happening when Felix comes across situations which we as adults understand very well. I have read the first three books in the series now, and I do want my son to experience them, as it's an important subject, particularly is this current climate of intolerance we're experiencing. I will be starting by reading the first couple of chapters of the first book to him, and I'll see if he's naturally picking up the 'real' story rather than seeing it through Felix's innocent eyes. I will update this review when I have seen how he manages it. 8th March 2017 The order to read these books is Once, Then, Now, After, Soon

Book was so inspirational
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about suspense and the holocaust. I feel like the theme in this book that we should never give up on anything no matter what. This book made me want to do something.
