Obwohl leidenschaftliche Vielleserin, habe ich mich bis jetzt nur selten dazu durchringen können, das englische Original zu lesen. An "Winter" habe ich mich dann doch herangewagt, weil ich einfach wissen musste, wie die Reihe endet. Und meine Entscheidung wurde mit einem großartigen Abschluss belohnt! Lasst euch nicht von den 800 Seiten abschrecken, sie vergehen wie im Flug! Allerdings: dank "Fairest", dem Buch über Levana (wunderschön gestaltet, ebenfalls sehr interessant und sehr, sehr viel kürzer!) war ich schon mit Marissa Meyers Schreibstil vertraut, von daher war die englische Version kein vollständiges Neuland für mich. Wer noch keines der anderen Bücher auf Englisch gelesen hat, dem kann ich das "Anlesen" bzw, "Eingewöhnen" mit diesem kürzeren Machwerk, oder vielleicht englischen Leseproben, sehr empfehlen. Zurück zum -Schreibstil- Dieser war, nach kurzer Eingewöhnung (ich musste erstmal zwischen den Sprachen umschalten) sehr gut zu lesen, auch für Leute, die im Englischen nicht so bewandert sind (moi). Leicht und schnell verständlich, aber trotzdem wahnsinnig flüssig und elegant und natürlich und einfach wundervoll zu lesen. Die Autorin beherrscht ihr Handwerk, und der Schreibstil hat durchaus dazu beigetragen, dass mir die Länge des Buches nicht negativ aufgefallen ist. Wie die Wortwahl wirken auch die Kapitel, die aus Meyers Feder hervorgegangen sind, fließend und ineinander greifend und genau richtig. Klinge ich pathetisch? Falls ja, tut es mir leid; aber ich bin immer noch sehr beeindruckt davon, wie kurzweilig die 800 Seiten waren und wie -verhältnismäßig- schnell ich sie bewältigen konnte. Verdienst der Autorin. -Geschichte/Konstruktion- -Winter- Natürlich liegt es nicht nur an dem Schreibstil, dass ich als Englisch-Krüppel gut durch das Buch gekommen bin. Die Geschichte ist genial. Wie der Titel schon dezent andeutet, wird nun die vierte Prinzessin/Märchenfigur eingeführt (Leser von "Fairest" kennen sie bereits): Winter, die Stieftochter Levanas. Und Wintern, nun, ist ein sehr eigener, fluoreszierender Charakter. Wie Cinder, Scarlet und Cress hat Winter ihren ganz eigenen Charm. Nicht den sarkastischen, stürmischen Charme der ersten beiden. Nicht den passiven, sich selbst überwindenen Charme von Cress, die immer mit sich kämpfen muss, um heroisch zu sein. Winter ist (wie ich finde, sehr nah an der Märchenvorlage) die Schönheit und Lieblichkeit und Güte in Person, doch ihre Güte kostet sie einen hohen Preis. Der Verzicht auf die lunarische Gabe der Manipulation hat schwere Auswirkungen ihre geistige Gesundheit. Ihr Leben am Hof unter dem eifersüchtigen, missbilligendem Blick der Königin, umringt von grausamen Aristokraten, begleitet von der allgegenwärtigen Sorge, ihren Liebsten (ihrem Liebsten!) könne etwas geschehen, wird dadurch nicht eben einfacher. Winter und ihre Beziehung zu diesem Liebsten, der Palastwache Jacin, ehemaliger Leibwächter von Sybil Mira und bekannt aus "Cress/Wie Sterne so golden", nehmen einen sehr großen Teil des Buches ein, gerade zu Beginn. Es wird eben ihre Geschichte erzählt, wie eben in den anderen Büchern die Geschichten der anderen Mädchen und ihrer "Prinzen" erzählt wurde. Jacin würde alles tun, um Winter zu schützen, immer in dem Wissen, dass seine Liebe aussichtslos ist. Und Winter, die labile, schwer angeschlagene Winter, bedarf oft seiner Hilfe und Rettung, ja. Schwach ist sie deshalb trotzdem nicht, sie besitzt die gleiche innere Stärke wie die anderen Heldinnen auch, jede auf ihre eigene Art. -Rest der Handlung- Seltsame Einteilung, ich weiß. Aber der Teil, der sich nicht ausschließlich um Winter und Jacin dreht, ist den altbekannten Heldinnen und Helden und ihrem Vorhaben, Levana zu stürzen, gewidmet. Nicht, dass das Buch sich in 2 strikte Teile spalten ließe, um Gottes Willen. Aber es handelt sich schon um zwei Handlungsstränge, die nach und nach immer enger miteinander verknüpft werden. So, wie Marissa Meyer überhaupt alle Figuren und Handlungsstränge miteinander verknüpft. Rasant, spannend, abwechslungsreich, voller Überraschungen und Wendungen, romantisch und blutig. Um nicht zu spoilern, möchte ich zu diesem Teil der Geschichte gar nichts weiter sagen. Cinder, Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, Cress, Thorne, Iko, Levana, Aimery, Wolfsmutanten, kaiserliche Berater, Rebellen, richtige Wölfe und Minenarbeiter - alle spielen ihre Rollen, und ihr Zusammenspiel ist so meisterhaft wie das Ineinandergreifen der Instrumente eines Sinfonie-Orchesters. Und genau deswegen habe ich mich keine Sekunde gelangweilt. -Ende ohne Spolier- Keine Sorge, ich verrate nichts. Nicht wirklich. Ist das Ende zufriedenstellend? Ja, finde ich. Sehr sogar, ohne zu kitschig zu sein. Ist es vielleicht zu zufriedenstellend? Das muss jeder selber wissen. Aber wir haben es schließlich mit einer Art Neuerzählung von Märchen zu tun, nicht wahr? Und wir alle wissen, wie ordentliche Märchen auszugehen haben. ;) -Fazit- Wir haben in "Winter" zwei in einem: Die Geschichte von Winter selbst, und die Geschichte von Cinder und ihrem Kampf gegen Levana. Beide Geschichten sind meisterhaft zu einer verschmolzen. Dadurch ergibt sich ein sehr dickes Buch, aber eines, in dem die verschiedenen Handlungsstänge so gekonnt miteinander verwoben sind, dass der Vorschlag, das Buch in zwei dünnere aufzutrennen, fast schon blasphemisch erscheint (plakativ gesagt). Winter ist ein Buch, das seine 800 Seiten wert ist und dem Leser eine spannende, rasante, witzige, überraschende, erschreckende, großartige Geschichte liefert. Dank dem Schreibstil der Autorin kommt man auch gut zurecht, wenn man nicht so gut mit der englischen Sprache vertraut ist. Die Kindle-Edition könnte für unentschlossene hilfreich sein: hier kann man mit der neuen Funktion "Wordwise" unbekannte Worte sofort nachschlagen und lernt sogar dazu. Vorbehaltlose Leseempfehlung! Stürzt euch ins Vergnügen! PS: Ich hätte nichts gegen ein paar Spinn-Offs, vielleicht in Form von Kurzgeschichten? Da geht was zwischen Iko und dem Leibwächter. I can’t tell you really ANYTHING that happens in this Winter because it’s all so damn glorious and if you haven’t read the other books, it just won’t make sense anyway. It’s like going into Return of the Jedi never having seen Luke Skywalker struggle with The Force. This book does not even pretend that you haven’t read the rest of The Lunar Chronicles – in fact, it demands that you read the others. And let’s face it, you wouldn’t be picking up the 800+ page series ending book without knowing what happens first. But…if you have read the other books, I can at least focus on Winter-Jacin a bit. Winter is the stepdaughter of Queen Levana, and she’s…pretty messed up. If you read Cress, you know that she’s a bit strange, but she also saved Scarlet from being killed by Queen Levana. She has what’s called “Lunar sickness,” which comes on as a direct result of not using her Lunar gift. That’s right, Winter refuses to use her mind control abilities because she thinks they hurt people, but she’s slowly going kind of nuts. She gets visions of pretty horrific things, and it’s hard for her to keep in touch with reality. The one person who helps is her childhood friend and secret long-term crush Jacin Clay, who understands and takes care of her (and also loves her), but is wary of starting anything with her because she’s a princess and he’s a guard. At the beginning of the book, Jacin has come back to Luna after betraying Cinder’s crew…and he’s being put on trial. And that’s all I can really say about the events of the book. What I will say is that Winter might be my favourite of the four heroines in this series – and I was surprised by this, because I really, really loved Cress. But in Winter, Meyer has created a heroine who is mentally fragile, and yet, incredibly strong-willed and determined, loving yet mischievous. It’s such a fantastic contrast, and it’s one that I worried might not be subtle, but I needn’t have worried: Meyer shows all the colours of Winter in a way that feels natural and right for the character. I don’t want to give too much away, but man, Winter is FUNNY. And smart, and defiant, but also really messed up. Her romance with Jacin felt believable and wonderful, and was a gift in the midst of this insanely fast-paced book. And speaking of fast-pace – I am deeply impressed by the way that Meyer handled all of the different viewpoints in this book. Yes, it’s written in omniscient third person, but flipping between all of the different viewpoints can’t be easy. There were at least 10 different viewpoints, and almost 100 chapters, and it’s a real feat of writing that I found the switching of viewpoint effortless. The other thing I will say about the book is that in spite of a backdrop of revolution, of serious action…every one of our beloved characters develops in this book and becomes stronger. This was what made the book a success to me – not just the action and knowing what happens, but that each one finds something in themselves, despite mistakes and challengers, that changes them into something more than they were in previous books. That’s what made this series – and this book – epic for me, and had me cheering through the stressful moments and the fears. Also, the kissing doesn’t hurt either. BONUSES: romanceHeart-Squeezing Romance: I began this series not really getting why people were swooning so much over Kai and Cinder…but with this book, I LITERALLY SHIP EVERYONE. I was swooning left, right, and center. The swooniness was in total overload in this book, and I LOVED IT. Map from Game of Thrones opening credits Map from Game of Thrones opening credits Vibrant World-Building: It was SO great to finally see Luna after hearing about it for so long, and Meyer uses her talents to give us the details – the throne room, the palace, the outer sectors…I loved reading about it all. I also loved that while there were details, they were always tasteful and in service of the plot. No overload here. Diversity: If you don’t know already, The Lunar Chronicles series is chock-full of diverse characters, from an Asian prince, to a black princess, to a half-cyborg. I love the fact that the diversity in the characters has absolutely nothing to do with their characters – no one makes a big deal out of any of the races – but we see parallels to our prejudices in the the way that cyborgs vs. non-cyborgs, and gifted Lunars vs. ungifted Lunars are dealt with. THE FINAL WORD: I can’t decide if this is a 4.5 or 5 star book because it is brilliant and epic and perfect but so damn long that I don’t know if I could ever re-read it, and that’s a factor in my rating. But it probably should get 5 stars for daring to be as epic as it is…and for successfully ending an incredible series with me shipping every couple, and loving every single scene.

I love the fact that the diversity in the characters has absolutely nothing to do with their characters – no one makes a big deal out of any of the races – but we see parallels to our prejudices in the the way that cyborgs vs. non-cyborgs, and gifted Lunars vs. ungifted Lunars are dealt with. THE FINAL WORD: I can’t decide if this is a 4.5 or 5 star book because it is brilliant and epic and perfect but so damn long that I don’t know if I could ever re-read it, and that’s a factor in my rating. But it probably should get 5 stars for daring to be as epic as it is…and for successfully ending an incredible series with me shipping every couple, and loving every single scene.

Winter, how I love thee. Let me count the ways. Seriously though, this series. It's amazing. Every time I read one of these books, it starts out slow, I have a brief moment of uncertainty, and then it takes off and I'm sucked in and I'm awake until 3am. It's a problem. Winter picks up right where Cress left off, with Winter and Scarlet becoming sort of friends, and Cinder and crew working on a plot to overthrow the evil queen. While this is the final chapter in a four book series and does a fantastically amazing job of wrapping things up over 800+ pages, it is also the story of Winter, the princess of Luna, and Jacin, a castle guard. I don't know why, but no matter how many times Jacin was described as pale and blonde, I couldn't help but picture him as a huge tall, dark, and handsome guy. My brain is still working this one out. Despite my inability to picture Jacin as Marissa Meyer intended, I completely adored their love story. In fact, I think that they might be my favorite couple out of the entire series. Maybe. I don't know. I honestly spent most of the book trying to decide how I felt about Winter as a character. I constantly went back and forth by almost being repulsed by her complete insanity and the actions that came with that, to admiring her for refusing to use her Lunar gift to the point where she WAS insane. To be honest, I kind of agree with the others who said there had to be a way she could've used her gift enough to -not- be insane, while also not hurting people I mean, I can't believe every person on Luna is evil because they use their gift. Cinder isn't! Speaking of Cinder... What a total badass. I mean, wow. She surpasses my expectations in every single book I read. I love her spirit and her humility and her, um, her Kai. Can I say that? Is that allowed? While he did feature from the beginning of this series, I feel like I got to know Kai so much better in this final book. I loved seeing him as the emperor and making necessary sacrifices while also putting so much faith in Cinder. It's just... swoony. Honestly, the most impressive thing about Winter is how it brings together every single character from the first three books and isn't overwhelming. Cress, Iko, Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, Thorne, Cress, Winter, and Jacin, all play major roles and I never found myself confused as to who was who or what was going on. Scarlet and Wolf's story was a little uncomfortable at times, but it had a satisfying conclusion. The same can be said for Cress and Thorne. These two... their cluelessness is something that might have irked me a little in another book, but here it was adorable and I loved every second of it! Levana is terrifying and insane as always and I don't think I have ever rooted against a villain so hard in my life. I truly don't have time to talk about all of the characters, so I'll just leave it there. Suffice it to say, I loved all of them. A lot. And I'm going to be sad to see them go. The plot of Winter is just amazing. While I was terribly daunted by picking up a book that came in at 827 pages (not the kind of thing I usually spring for), I can definitely see why every single page was needed. The beginning was a little slow for me, but I honestly feel like all of the detail included was necessary for the big picture. The slow takeover of Luna, the final, heart-stopping battle, and the way everything came together was more perfect than I could have imagined! It's full of action and romance. I laughed, I gasped, I (almost) cried. Winter is the book you've been waiting for! And of course, we FINALLY get to see Luna in all of it's glory. I feel like the series has slowly been building up to some kind of big reveal of Luna in its entirety and the waiting was all worth it because Luna is breathtaking! I loved the descriptions of each sector, the tunnels, even the caves! The amount of thought that went into making this fantasy world is really pretty impressive. I could really go on and on (and on and on) about my feelings for Winter and The Lunar Chronicles in general, but I'll stop. I love this series and I'm kind of devastated that it's at an end. I binged Fairest in a day after finishing this one and I'll be pre-ordering Stars Above in the very, very near future. If you haven't started this series yet, I really hope you'll give it a chance!

Winter -- The Lunar Chronicles 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 five freaking stars! this book can be only describe in one word -- OUTSTANDINGLY-EPIC... yep thats one word Winter is the Climax book for the The Lunar Chronicles series. I didnt know that the last book of the series will be sooo goooddddd!! No disappoints at all!! I dont know what to say more but if have read Cinder, Scarlet and Cress then what are you waiting for? Get your ass out there and buy this book! All the Characters in the series were depict equally! They were always with each other... And helping with the war. Its like the SQUAD -- Cinder, Kai, Iko, Scarlet, Wolf, Cress, Thorne, Winter and Jacin. My favourite characters in the book was Carwell Thorne and Crescent. Captain Thorne was soo adorable probably more than Cress (book) I always like alfa male characters... Wolf in Scarlet (book) was better than Wolf in Winter (book) Cinder and Kai were sweet as well! And my God! Levana and then the massacre war were amazing! In short, the was just wow!

5 stelline meritate
Queste edizione con testo in inglese nonostante il modico prezzo è eccezionale tanto quello che contiene dentro. Una saga stupenda che merita di essere letta. Ancora devo leggere quest'ultimo capitolo ma so già che mi piacerà, quindi 5 stelline a mani basse! Il livello d'inglese è intermedio e dunque abbastanza comprensibile.
