Einstein's Puzzle Universe: "Relatively" Difficult Riddles & Conundrums Inspired by the Great Scientist Hardcover – March 15, 2016

My kids had fun with this book. Took it to our cabin (no power or cellphone coverage) and our kids age 13 and 18 and their friends spent hours figuring out the puzzles. We all got involved and it lead to great conversations.

High quality book. My son is going to love it!

Bought this for a friend who loves Einstein. An absolute must for anyone who appreciates his work.

Too many repeat puzzles--like the LSAT-style logic games that appear every nine or ten pages.

This book has nothing to do with Einstein. Just a collection of repetitive ridles suited for children age 10-12. I was disappointed since I had the impression the books content was inspired by the physics of Einstein, but i seems it Einsteins name is only used to get attention.

I got as far as the fourth question and it was a whopper of a mistake. It asks why a submarine cannot sit on the ocean bottom without getting in trouble. There are several very good non-physics reasons for this (gets mud in the cooling water system, for example), but the answer given was completely wrong. The answer was that there would be a mis-balance of water pressure - high pressure on top of the sub, and no water pressure on the underside - and the sub could not rise from the bottom since the weight of the water above it would pin it to the bottom. Not quit - the water pressure on the bottom of the sub is replaced by the force by the ocean floor pushing up on the sub (actually the sub pushes down, but the ocean floor pushes back just as hard). There is a complete analog for objects on the Earth's surface (not under water). There are 14.7 pounds of air above every square inch of area at the Earth's surface (atmospheric pressure). A 6 x 8 inch book laying on a table has over 700 pounds of air above it, and just the table below it, but we can still lift it off the table easily (we don't have to lift the whole 700 pounds - just the weight of the book).

A Christmas gift to my son who enjoyed it immensely. He reported that some puzzles were very easy, some quite tricky and others he could not understand even after looking up the answer! I conclude that this is exactly how a good puzzled book should be.
