Is this usb 3 or still usb 2.0?

USB 2.0. Focusrite states the following on their website: "...although USB 3.0 offers greater bandwidth than USB 2.0, it will deliver no round trip latency benefits over USB 2.0 ... for our largest channel count USB audio interface, the Scarlett 18i20, USB 2.0 provides more than enough bandwidth for delivering 18 channels of audio inputs and 20 channels of audio outputs simultaneously."

What's better. This or the presonus 1818vsl

Focusrite is far superior to the Presonus in technology and technical support in our opinion. We changed from the Presonus to the Focusrite and have never looked back.

Will this work with a 2009 mac os x yosemite 10.10.5?

Hello, Yes, according to Focusrite's website, this will work with OS X 10.10. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us (pixelproaudio on Amazon). We can help with support after the sale as well. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio

Can you explain the version of protools this comes with (and, if it's a non-standard version, describe it a bit). does it include protools updates?

Hello,This comes with Pro Tools|First. It is a free version that you can even download now and check out. The link is here:http://www.avid.com/pro-tools-firstIt does not work in Windows 10 yet, but you can always run it in Windows 8 compatibility mode.If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us.
