what is the weight limit?

My manual states maximum user weight is 50 lbs for 9-36 months.

How have others hung it from a tree branch?

I would look up tree branch straps. I have used them for other accessories and I think it would would fine with this swing.

Is it easy to unbuckle to remove the child? My daughter had a different swing she eventually threw away because the buckles were too difficult.

This swing is easier to unbuckle than the little tikes one. Yet not easy for the child in the swing. I was torn between the 2 brands but recently was able to try this at a friend's house. I've owned the little tikes (pink and blue/red) previously. I'll be ordering this Step 2 one for my nephew.

I'm considering this swing for my toddler and preschooler ... does the safety harness snap underneath for storage for a 3 or 4 year old?

No it does not, at best it folds down into the seat for storage, but you have to use it when there's a child in the seat.
