Good Small Shovel!
l'm impressed with the quality and lightweight-ness of this shovel! l bought it to go into my emergency bag... so l didn't want anything too heavy... but l did want it to work! The reason l selected this one was first because of the long handle... and secondly because of all the multipurpose features. l was particularly interested in how well the handle held together... whether the threads would become loose or not. Well... l dld have some issues with the threads unscrewing... while using the saw feature... but l must admit... l was putting quite a bit of stress on it. The threads are similar to quality plumbing fittings... and went together very smoothly... which ls probably why they loosened. Despite loosening up... there was not ever any danger of it falling apart... so l was thinking of just throwing some teflon tape into the bag... to help them hold fast in times of need. Truthfully... though... l lll probably not be using this as a saw... only in a pinch... as l have two other cutting type tools in my emergency bag that are better suited to it. l then tested it as a shovel. This ls where the handle proved worthwhile. lf l were taller... it would have meant bending over... but being 5'3" l could stand upright and put some weight into lt. The blades are nice and sharp... and cut through my clay soil without very much effort at all! l was very please with that part. l then put it into the plck position. Again... l was pleased. lf l had to dig a pit for a pot... or cut a small tree for a fire... l'd be fine. l didn't even try the holes for bolts... or the can opener... so l can't comment on those... but l'm glad they are there. Suffice it to say... it will serve my purposes just fine.

Sturdy Shovel -- Decent Price
Quite impressed! Sturdy. Durable. Multi-functional. Small enough to travel with, pack in a luggage, store in vehicle. Yet large enough to get the job done. Reviews for this shovel are accurate. It's not flimsy. It's easy to assemble and disassemble. Packs snuggly in it's sturdy canvas pouch. Is space efficient. A good product. Not a piece of junk. Tip: When tighten in shovel position, don't lay pick flat against the handle, as doing so will prevent shovel from aligning properly, and will cause the shovel head to be loose and have some "play". (The joint will tighten at an angle, creating "play".) Allow a gap to be between the pick and the shovel handle. In doing so, the shovel head will be "solid", and be useable without "play" or movement. If this sounds confusing or complicated, it'll all make more sense when you assemble and tighten the handle pieces to the shovel head. If the shovel head moves during use, then the pick was positioned too close to the handle when you tightened the nut. Read other reviews for more insight. No need for me to repeat what's already been said. Before I purchased this shovel, I read the reviews and trusted what I read to be truth. I was not disappointed. Lots of good comments have been posted for this product. Makes sense, as it's a decent multi-functional tool. Seller shipped quickly, too. I ordered on a Saturday afternoon, over a holiday weekend. The shovel arrived in my mailbox on Tuesday. Plan to take the shovel on a trip sometime this summer. Will consider updating this review after our camping trip if there is something noteworthy to mention.

love this thing
love this thing, well built and easy to use. I had my 13 yr old son assemble it and dig a little hole for the camp fire and disassemble it. he had no problem at all.

4.5 because of the case stitching
I give it a 4.5. I needed a shovel to go in a tool pack I lug around when I work with fruit trees. The shovel came slightly dull, but sharpened well with files; I'm still working on the saw section. I don't mind sharpening it, and it does seem to be very sturdy. The case seems pretty sturdy with one exception. The belt loops were sewn on leaving a section of thread stretched between each area being sewn. They just moved the case with the machine stopped without back stitching and cutting the thread. This is on the inside and outside, including the bobbin thread. If one of these threads is cut, which I did, the stitching begins to come out. I stitched and tied each of the threads at each end on the outside of the case, then cut the threads in the middle, threaded them on a needle and pulled them inside the case. I tied and stitched the inside threads, but left them in place. It would have been nice if the case had come finished.

Well, it's certainly "packable" and well made but the handle threads always loosen up after using it for a while. Especially when chopping with the "pick". Other than sand/snow you're not going to be using this for any heavy digging.

High quality E-Tool that puts up with abuse.
I was skeptical about the build quality and the materials quality of this shovel, but after testing it out I'm happy with the product. The locking mechanism is stout and solid. The shovel digs well, the axe edge cuts well, the pick picks well, even the bottle opener works great! The only thing it doesn't do well is saw, which is completely expected and acceptable as far as I'm concerned. I did a lot of research before deciding to go with this e-tool, and I'm glad I did. It's compact, well-built, and ready to put up with abuse.

WEAK: Bent on first use
Fairly weak and bent on small rocks while I was using it to prepare a camp site. The case is good and the modular design is nice, but I wouldn't use it for anything but light digging in soil with little to no rocks.

I certainly hope our military isn't staffed with equipment like this.
I read multiple reviews and thought that this product would actually be "military grade" and "built to last". I went on one light camping trip with it and it broke the first day. It's convenient and small but if it doesn't actually last, it's pretty useless in my book. Typically when I think of a shovel or anything that states "Military" in its title, I expect at least a certain level of sturdiness in the product. This was definitely not it. Some of you purchased this and haven't really tested/used it since you wanted to put it in your "Go-Bag" or Emergency bag, quickly take it out and return it. If you're really in a situation where it matters, this is not what you want to have packed in your bag. The tool constantly becomes loose while use and requires a tightening every 5-8 seconds. The saw blade was sturdy but would get stuck in the wood every 4 or 5 swipes. In conjunction to that, the actual length of the saw blade is extremely short, so it's going to take a long while to actually saw anything. Don't even imagine trying to use this as an ax, or you might just have it fly off and kill someone. Overall this experience has made me wary of "military quality" and multi tools in general, especially on amazon. Perhaps effectiveness sacrificed for convenience is not what one should look for when being in the outdoors/emergency.
