GE Whole House Water Filtration System, GXWH70M

When we moved into our new home, the water quality was noticeably different than what we were used to. The hard water was so bad that we were actually driving back to our previous house just to shower until we found a solution. Installing this GE whole house filtration system along with a water softener completely changed our experience. We've been using this system for well over a year, and it has been reliable from day one. I use the GE Premium replacement filters and replace them on schedule every three months. The water tastes better, there is no noticeable chlorine odor, and it gives me peace of mind knowing the entire house is being filtered before the water reaches our faucets and appliances. One feature that really sets this system apart is the GE SmartHQ app. It does much more than simply notify you when it's time to replace the filter. I can check how much water we're using, monitor the filter life percentage, and even place the system into Vacation Mode when we're away from home. The built-in leak detection and smart monitoring provide an extra layer of protection that many traditional whole-house filters simply don't offer. The clear filter housing also makes it easy to visually inspect the filter, and changing cartridges is quick and straightforward. If your home has hard water or you're looking for a quality whole-house filtration system, I highly recommend pairing this unit with a water softener. Together they've made a tremendous difference in our home. After more than a year of ownership, it's still one of the best home improvement investments we've made. Definitely worth every penny!

Installed this about a month ago, so far, it works as expected. I does require some work in regards to a solid mounting surface and some plumbing work. Nothing terribly difficult, especially when using Shark Bites, but it is work nonetheless. The unit itself is much larger than the older 25 year GE unit it replaced. The old one could just hang on the pipe, but this is far too heavy. Finding and creating a good mounting location, with some plumbing tweaks took a couple of hours. After checking for leaks the unit came right up. Downloaded the GE SmartHQ app and connected the filter. No issues with connectivity it works as promised. I haven’t tried to replace the filter yet, but it seems it will be heavy so use one hand on the sump canister when you lower it down. I like that it tracks gallons per day and can detect small potential leaks via notifications. Being that the old GE unit lasted many years, I am expecting a long life with this unit as well.

It's an easy install on new. Can be quite a process on existing piping. WiFi is great, app works as expected. Sharkbites to 3/4" cu or cpvc are included. Be careful with the supplied diagram for mounting the bracket. I did the install with vertical piping and the diagram was not correct. The inlet and outlet pipes need to be 8 3/8" apart but the filter inlet and outlet legs are different lengths. Depending on your existing piping if its inlet up or inlet down will determine where the bracket needs to be installed. It's expensive but hopefully worth it. Master plumber here so I actually know what I'm talking about.

Left me with no filtered water for a week the only setting that works if the bypass setting and Amazon will not send me another one until it’s returned. As in the one mounted to my pipes.

I did not need the whole system. I just needed the filter canister because mine developed a crack. I could not buy only the canister. I had to spend over $200 and buy the complete system to get the canister. It is what I needed and does the trick.

A must have for a frequent travelor or a vacation home/rental. The integrated remote leak detection & shut-off capability is a great way to head off catastrophic damage or skyhigh water bills from a leak or careless guest. I've installed many filters over the years and the mounting hardware for this unit is far superior, despite the missing parts I had to replace (I almost sent it back! Fortunately, the value, exceeded the sum of the parts). The wifi setup for the filter & app is easier than a "smart lock." However, the water usuage calendar in the app is still a bit buggy & takes a while to load. The price I was going to pay for other multiple systems would have been four times the cost & aggravation of the GE smart filter. My biggest surprise of the water filter was the remote bypass feature. For example, Ive already used the combined convience of the app & filter bypass when I use the outdoor spigots. The app also showed how much water was lossed when a toilet valve was stuck open for most of the morning, as shown in the picture. The filter also sent me a few medium use alerts during the incident. Our city is treating our water with chlorine and we needed a filter to help protect us and our plumbing. GE needs to make a outdoor filter cover in casevl if you have the filter outside. I made a custom cover to help protect it from the Florida sun, rain and corrosive sea air.

Installing the filter was basic with no issues. Connecting the app is a horrible nightmare that after 2 hours of trying and confirming every username and password known to man we still cannot get it connected. Frustrated that the feature is currently useless

(-) installation instructions say to cut out 8 3/8" but it actually requires an additional 2 3/8" of un-impeded pipe on each side to get the fittings on. (no couplings, elbows, solder splatter, etc). (-) The connections are intended for PEX or Copper but Copper would be very difficult to use if it was anything but the optimum strait run design. (-) The push fitttings take a lot of effort to move into place. (-) the bypass handle is very stiff (plastic) and it feels like it will break before it moves. (-) The vent valve began to weep immediately after installation. (+) The app appears to work well
