Excellent book on basic digital photography and the technology behind it. It offers clear and concise explanations on different digital cameras, different types of sensors, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. It also explains the different types of lens and what for what purpose they are generally used. As an added benefit, the author also describes how to scan (digitize) old photographs and general techniques on the use of photo editing software.

If you have a digital camera and want more from it then the regular settings consider this book. Took a digital camera class on line through an Adult College Class. The class was great but this book enforced my learning experience. Took great notes until you review on your own...book was a big help! Bought used and was just as happy with it.

I read this book in its entirety and found out that the title didn't lie. It was really basic. This is a GREAT book for anyone who has no background in photography. It explains just about everything photography has to offer but in a really basic sense. Good examples and pictures.

I have a BFA in Photography from SCAD, and I've been an active photographer for more than 15 years. Recently a good friend of mine asked me to teach her about photography and create a photo curriculum for her self study. Henry Horenstein authored many of the books I referenced when I took intro classes many years ago, so I was very happy to find this contemporary intro level text geared toward digital photography. The book covers the basic intro level information that one would expect- lens focal length, aperture, depth of field, shutter speed, equivalent exposure, basic lighting principles, ect. The book omits film and darkroom techniques, instead focusing on info relevant to digital photography- custom functions of the digital SLR, uploading and file management, editing, printing, ect. As with Horenstein's other books, the content was clearly written and easy to understand. If you are brand new to photography and are looking for a good overall manual that will teach you how to use your digital SLR and how to get out of the "P for Professional" mentality, then this book is for you.

im sure the book itself fine but for paying for a NEW book and it being already ripped and having a few pages dented due to poor packaging sucks.

The book arrived promptly and was in excellent condition. The book itself is a wealth of information for those who are getting started out in digital photography and laid out similar to a textbook. Needed it for a photography class I took and glad I could get it at such a great price.

Good product and lives upto the expectations. Good summary of the photography process. Introduces many basics and the book paper also feels good.

The instruction manual for a new camera is sometimes difficult to unsderstand because a beginner does not understand the basics: aperture, shutter, lighting, exposure... This book explains the basics about everything a beginner needs to know. After reading this book you will be able to set your camera to something else than AUTO and obtain better pictures.

Excellent book. Must read for all photograph enthusiasts.

A comprehensive look at digital photography. I still go back to this book whenever I feel the need for a visual reference.
