They've tried Catzilla, a feline so ferocious it can't be euthanized. They've tried booby traps that Rube Goldberg would marvel at. They've even tried Caesar (hilariously played by Christopher Walken), a demented exterminator whose "Squeak Seeker 2000" mouse-cam will infiltrate even the cleverest rodent's secret lair. But the Smuntz brothers Ernie (Nathan Lane) and Lars (British comedian Lee Evans) just can't win against the tenacious mouse that wreaks havoc in the vintage home they've inherited from their father. That's the one-note premise of this chaotic, lavishly produced comedy that starts on a high note and never lets up, eventually leaving the viewer exhausted. The special mouse effects (live-action, animatronic, and computer-generated) are delightful, and the slapstick is frequently ingenious, but the title says it all in a movie that is little more than an elaborate variation of Home Alone . A prime choice for family fun, but it's really just a live-action cartoon that overstays its welcome. It's harmless fun if all you're looking for is a marathon of slapstick gags and pratfalls, and it's notable as the final film appearance of veteran character actor William Hickey, who died in June of 1997, shortly after filming of Mouse Hunt was completed. --Jeff Shannon Lane/Evans ~ Mouse Hunt Review: Funny movie - Fun old movie & well worth the price. Review: "I don't think we're dealing with an ordinary mouse." - Brilliant. A savagely funny battle of wills between a poor little mouse and two dimwitted brothers down on their luck. It takes a great deal of ingenuity to turn a much hated rodent into a lovable little hero (of sorts). Rodents are never appreciated under the best of circumstances. In this context, you actually find yourself cheering for him. The attempts to kill the intruder are varied and many, from a psychotic cat that can't be killed (Catzilla) to an expert exterminator (played to perfection by Christopher Walken). Everything they try backfires in an ever escalating fashion. "This is how accidents happen." One brother observes. Boy, is he ever right! And even though they believe they can outsmart the mouse ("I like to use both sides of my brain."), bad luck and their own incompetence constantly gets in their way. Yes, the premise is limited to the title, this is a movie about hunting down and killing a mouse. But limited or succinct doesn't automatically mean it isn't a well made farce. This movie is filled with bizarre pantomime, marvelous sight gags, and great dialog. It's a delight. It never fails to cheer me up every time I watch it. It's definitely one of my favorite Nathan Lane movies.

Mighty Mouse, Indeed
When I was eleven back in 1997, I got Mousehunt on VHS. It's a movie I remember watching a lot over the years. So I decided why not and bought Mousehunt on DVD. Mousehunt involves two brothers, Ernie and Lars Smultz (Nathan Lane and Lee Evans respectively) inheriting their father's string factory and an old decrepit house. After Lars is thrown out of his house by his wife and Ernie loses his reputation and restaurant after a fatal incident involving a roach, the two move in together at the old house where they ultimately discover the house they believed to be worthless is actually worth millions. Unfortunately, the house also comes with another tenant--a single mouse that seems to be much smarter than the average mouse. Much of the humor of the movie comes from the two brothers' efforts in getting rid of the mouse who just seems to survive everything and turn it back on the humans. It's really more of a slapstick kind of comedy movie. Perhaps as much as The Three Stooges might have been, but it's there. There's a few more special features on the DVD than this Amazon page lets on. Listed on the back of my DVD are "From The Cutting Room Floor", production notes, cast and filmmakers' bios, and the theatrical trailers (none of which I have actually watched yet since getting the DVD recently). But I should point out though the DVD I received is NOT the one used in the main image. I got the one that looks like the third image, with Nathan Lane in a chef's hat and the mouse on front so that might be the reason. It's certainly just a fun movie, if anything. If you're looking for a lighthearted comedy that you don't have to work to get into, grab a bowl of popcorn and get this.

Great Family Entertainment
A great little, silly, funny and thoroughly family oriented movie. It makes absolutely no sense, has no great social message and no abysmal language to deal with, therefore it is nothing else except 90 minutes or so of fun entertainment. I highly recommend it for family viewing.

MouseHunt DVD 🐭
MouseHunt DVD, this film ive seen before, but had to watch again, its very funny. 😀 two brothers who inherit a string factory, also inherit an old house. Tho seemingly empty and falling to pieces, the house is occupied by a mouse. The mouse is very smart, and has no plans to move out of his home. 😃 a brilliant conmedy with Lee Evans and Nathan Lane. Highly recommend this wonderful film. 😅 🐭
