Is there anything on the feet that prevent it from sliding like some rubber on the feet?

There's no rubber on the feet, but there is a plastic piece that does not easily slide, so it's not just metal sitting on the desk top and the bars at the base are fairly heavy. I find that mine does not move at all.

Will this fit 17" laptop?

Yes, my Dell Inspiron 17", 5000 series, fits just fine. The surface (excluding the mouse pad attachment) is 16" across and almost 12" deep. I say "almost" because there's a small space 1/2" or less in the very front that is taken up by the metal bar that keeps the laptop from falling off the front. Even if a laptop hung over the side or back a little bit, it's not a problem.

Will it fit in a backpack comfortably?

It would be too large to me. It comes with a bag that has handles.
