Will this hold a 15.5" laptop?

Yes I have a Mac Book Pro and it fits great.

what is the width of this bag? can i have a laptop and a couple books in it together?

I use my bag exactly for that - unfortunately my laptop is 15" x 10.5" and I have no room for anything else except for what can fit in the outer pockets - wallet, phone, glass case and power supply. I thoroughly enjoy the bag and despite this, I am pleased with the purchase. I would recommend the bag. W.A. Dill Hamilton, Bermuda.

What is the weight capacity? I often need to carry 5 - 10 pounds in my briefcase, which has caused prior bags' strap-handles to rip off

My husband loves this bag. We aren't sure of the max weight.. but he had carried a heavy "dinosaur" of a lap top along with his new one with no issues..

Does this bag have any zippered compartments? Some older reviews mention it but not later ones I think.

It does have one inside. It is barely noticed when you open the bag. Sometimes I even forget it exists.
