Is there a good way to stabilize it with kids around? I’m not talking toddlers — I’m talking teenagers who think everything is a footrest.

I don't know if you could stabilize it but, if they're going to rest their feet on it when there's a fire burning inside of it, they'll figure out real fast that they shouldn't be doing that. Kind of a smart ass answer, I apologize.

For the medium I use this. REDCAMP Folding Campfire Grill Heavy Duty From Amazon. Fits perfect.

If I am using this at the beach, how long does it take to cool down ? Is it easy to clean out ? I would need to bring it home in our car.

I would wait around an hour before attempting to touch the firepit after the last flames are visible. Also having a pair of heavy duty oven mitts would be handy for dumping the hot coals out if you need to cool it down faster (it has two handles but they get hot)
