How do you match the Scrambler cube pattern if it has fewer cubes than the game board... I don't get it?

Players race to recreate the 9 squares from the scrambler into the 9 center squares of the 5x5 grid. The outside rows are used to help move the squares in and out of the center 9. Once a player complete the pattern, they slam the frame down on their side, covering the outside rows, with only the 9 center tiles showing.

Is this the actual Rubik's Race game or a knock off?

This is a knock off called "Magic Block Game". From the other answers it looks like it might have been the real thing in 2018, but as of 2019 it's the knock off you get.... disappointing!

what age child would be able to do this?

I think 8 and up. The pieces come out very easily so my younger grandson "thinks" he has completed the task. I think by age 8 they are better able to actually reason out the necessary moves.

Avec un peu de retard je vous envoie un commentaire sur ce produit; jeu offert pour Noël mais déçue car la règle du jeu est écrite en anglais avec aucune traduction en français; c'est incompréhensible de vendre un article en France sans avoir une notice dans la langue du pays; l'enfant a été triste car ne pouvait pas jouer pleinement vu qu'il ne pouvait pas pu lire la règle du jeu; à améliorer pour les prochains rubik's race

Es un juego de agilidad mental combinado con destreza que te entretiene por un buen rato, las partidas son rápidas pero puedes continuar jugando por horas, a mi familia y amigos les encantó tanto como a mi. Definitivamente una buena inversión para la colección de juegos de mesa, además por su tamaño lo puedes llevar fácilmente, les faltó sólo agregar una bolsa para los cuadros de colores ya que corres el riesgo de que se pierda alguno en el traslado. 100% recomendable
