Cherry and Hard Maple End Grain Cutting Board (ready to ship)

Description

This board is handmade from solid black cherry and hard maple hardwood. Locally harvested Indiana hardwoods are used. The cherry will tend to darken over time with deeper, richer colors. This board has bottom bumper pads already installed so it is usable only on one side. Bumper pads lift the board off the counter surface to allow the board to breath and dry faster after cleaning. Board dimensions: Length: 12" Width: 11 1/2" Material Thickness: 1 1/2" Edge Design: Butcher block square Finish: Our proprietary blend of mineral oil and Carnauba wax. This is the exact piece for sale. Printed cutting board care instructions are included. End Grain: End grain is the best for your knife edge. The orientation of the wood fibers allow them to open up to accept the knife edge, which makes them easier on the edge and has been described as "self healing" in that the small cuts on the surface of the board may close back up to some degree. Overall the main advantages of an end grain cutting board is the durability, ability to hide knife marks, and it will not dull your knives as quickly as plastic, glass or even edge glued wood cutting boards. Glue: Titebond type III waterproof glue. Our cutting boards are finished with all natural food safe mineral oil. Mineral oil is a non-drying penetrating oil, which means that it will not polymerize (form a plastic-like substance) over time. And unlike a wood surface finish with non-organic chemical based poly, it will not crack or water stain. This is good for oiling wood surfaces that are in contact with water or heat because it will stay a bit liquid in the wood and flow into cracks and scratches. Mineral oil is inexpensive and available at a wide variety of stores. Periodic reapplication of the oil after cleaning the board will return it to like new condition. Use mild soap during hand cleaning and it should not be submerged in water or placed in a dish washer. Have any questions? Please let us know.
