Shelf life is usually about 6 months from the packaging date for Velveeta cheese. Check the expiration date and use within 2 to 3 weeks if stored at room temperature. Add a week or so if you have stored in the refrigerator. Once you have opened the product use within 5 days. (Not that it will last that long once opened...lol)

I would say you need to document (take pictures/video) and contact the manufacturer. I'm thankful I've not had this happen.
