We will be going on a 2 week back packing trip in the mountains at Philmont Ranch. Do you recommend this chair for camping?

No, I wouldn't take a one pound stool on a back pack trip. I'd sit on a log or rock, and might take a lightweight seat pad. If I was going to add weight, I would look for a very lightweight one with a back on it, so I could also rest my back.

how high is the seat from the ground?

Sorry it took so long to answer. The holidays and a cold... Anyway... I measured and it's 17 inches. It may not sound very high but I'm 5'6" and it's actually comfortable. I've had both hips replaced and just had lower back surgery and it's still easy for me to use. Hope this is helpful.

I'm 5'6" and 190lbs. Weak legs. Will I be able to rise from this chair without help?
