For too long I had relied solely on whey protein to help build muscle, especially after intense work outs. It definitely helped, but often times I would wake up the morning after not feeling that much better. In other words, I wasn't really recovering that well. I considered just doubling up on the whey, basically eating another serving before bed, but then I did some research. I figured it would benefit me to alternate the types of protein supplement, and when I added the Optimum Nutrition Casein protein, it was a game changer. I now wake up in the morning feeling back to 100%. Even though I never train the same muscle groups two days in a row, I feel as if I could. I am making a 100% recovery in less than half the time. As a side benefit, the stuff tastes amazing. I mix mine with soy milk (yeah, I drink soy, get over it) and shot of light cream, after reading that a modest amount of fats help the body absorb large amounts of protein. Anyways, the vanilla is a very deep and satisfying flavor. To change it up I sometimes add some cinnamon powder, or some nutmeg and ground clove. On top of that, I eat it just before bed, and I am never super hungry in the morning, and I have eliminated my midnight snack routine. I use a hand crank egg beater to mix this stuff up, because even a little bit quickly turns into a thick mixture, sort of like wet concrete. It needs way more liquid to dissolve into than whey protein powder. Sometimes I also throw in some Greek style yogurt, but this stuff is thick enough already. The labeling says something about how Casein behaves differently when it hits the acid in the stomach, and that it expands, and you see this when you mix it up. If you have been missing something in the protein department, I would absolutely try this Casein. PROS: + Tastes awesome. + Fills you up, you feel satisfied, and won't be hungry for quite a while after. + A little powder goes a long way. + Slow absorption. CONS: - More expensive than most whey protein powders, but that's common to Casein.

I tried Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard Casein Powder for about a few months now, and overall, I'm quite pleased with it. While I was a bit disappointed that the container wasn't completely filled, the powder itself exceeded my expectations in other areas. It tastes really good, especially when mixed with lactose free milk, soy or oat milk, it doesn't cause any stomach discomfort, which is a big plus for me. The sustained release of protein throughout the night has helped in my muscle recovery after workouts. My doctor told me to get more protein into my diet, so I decided to try this. The taste is very good and it mixes into water & milk very well. Mixes in much better than whey protein. This is the vanilla and I am not a big fan of vanilla, but this is good. Carbs & sugar content is minimal, so this does not effect my blood sugar adversely. No problems with digestion or upset stomach. Could be used as a meal substitute, I suppose. I just wish it were less expensive.

Not powdery like most.

Casein has been a critical part of my diet since I started training on an empty stomach, usually after not eating for 16+ hours. "How is that possible?" you might ask. The answer: Casein. When milk is digested, it breaks down into curds (casein) and whey. Whey is the go-to source of protein before and after working out because it's fast acting. Casein, on the other hand, takes a long time to digest, making it a great source of late night protein leading up to hours of fasting. Why go with Gold Standard? - I personally think it's delicious, but that's just my taste. It's pretty sweet, so I would recommend just mixing with water (plenty of water, because this stuff is thick). - It doesn't have a thousand ingredients like a lot of other supplements out there. - Price Personal use: - I usually only eat within an eight hour window between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and work out sometime between 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. As my last meal of the day, I either drink some Casein or eat some cottage cheese (which is essentially the same thing as casein, but can be more expensive and more of a hassle to buy). Because it is more slowly digested, Casein keeps me full and ready to lift as I hit the gym the following afternoon. Bottom line: - Great tasting, cheap, and essential part of my diet. Highly recommended.

I have been a longtime fan of this Casein Protein. It keeps me from getting hungry and I have not found a flavor I didn’t like. This blends well using just a shaker bottle. I usually mix with a couple additional ounces of milk than the directions call for, because that has gotten to be my preference. To each their own preference.

Great packaging, great results from the product! The taste is wonderful in this, the vanilla tastes like vanilla but kind of punchy and thick which brings out that flavour even more and I love that. On a muscle building point of view, this is a great product, every night I have it, I wake up the next day in a lot less pain or no pain at all. The vitamins and minerals in it are a great addition and the macro-nutrients from it including the caloric value are just perfect for me. Although I get a little bloated when I have it, I'm completely back to my normal stomach in the morning so no issues there as I can't tell when I'm sleeping. This is definitely must have product and especially this flavour over the rest. I've tried the other flavours and few other brands and till now this has been the best overall for price and results.

C'est une caséine micellaire. C'est bien ce que je cherchais. On ne sait malheureusement pas d'où viennent les matières premières, ce qui est le cas d'une bonne partie des produits de ce type. Ceci dit elle est très digeste, ce qui est un excellent point, étant donné que ce n'est pas forcément gagné d'avance. Vous verrez beaucoup de gens devenir "intolérants" aux protéines laitières, plus à mon avis qu'avec les produits dont on disposait il y a vingt ou trente ans, qui étaient pourtant théoriquement moins "high tech" (mais étaient souvent majoritairement constitués de caséines, justement et non de whey comme aujourd'hui). La cerise sur le gâteau c'est que c'est une protéine vanille avec une texture crémeuse, un goût pas trop chimique et que ça donne quelque chose de très agréable à consommer aussi bien sous une forme plutôt liquide ou sous forme de crème (avec tous les intermédiaires possibles). Elle me semble d'ailleurs meilleure sous cette forme, et c'est là qu'on est heureux qu'ON n'ait pas eu la main trop lourde sur les édulcorants. C'est mon goût, je sais que certains ont du mal avec la texture des caséines, mais j'avoue ne pas bien comprendre pourquoi. La vanille, il faut le rappeler est le parfum le plus versatile : on peut faire des milk shakes aux fruits rouges, ou à la banane, selon les goûts. Le parfum est présent mais s'efface devant à peu près tout ce qu'on peut mélanger avec. C'est pratique. Le chocolat n'est pas extraordinaire, mais reste buvable. J'ai testé un mélange avec la whey ON vanille et la caséine chocolat, c'est sympa, plus que le chocolat seul donc. Une protéine pratique, facile à consommer et peu agressive sur les intestins (en tout cas pour moi) plus que d'autres, en tout cas. On augmente bien sa consommation de protéines avec sans problème(s). Mélangeable avec une whey pour avoir une protéine "à l'ancienne" mixte après l'entraînement ou le matin. En collation avant l'entraînement (1h environ) semble aider à maintenir un bon niveau d'énergie, même au régime, plus efficace à mon sens que des BCAA pour ce genre de chose et aussi efficace qu'un mélange peptopro / maltodextrine, les calories en moins. Bonne protéine de régime donc, comme de prise de poids, sans doute. Je recommande. Bon produit à tous points de vue.
