I've not seen another Suction Grip Safety Bar that I view as better and safer. I'd definitely buy again!
With smooth ceramic tile, and a bit of water or liquid soap on the suction cup to help with a good seal, this grip has been solid and provides a good grip at about elbow height on the tub wall for balance. We are not putting much weight on this vertically mounted bar, but what we are makes a big difference in our stability and safety. This was a necessity after major surgery. The bar has a non--slip grip inside the handle that does help with wet hands. Unlike similar products that I have noted, this one has the handle extending beyond the suction cups. These ends are an idea that I really like because it gives a longer bar, and a place to grab quickly; and it extends the usable length of the handle. The projection also gives a place to temporarily hang a wet washcloth, clothing, or some bath accessory. We tried the one, then I found one similar to the others advertised with the colors on the handle, and no extension of the bar/ handle. The curved handle on the second one would be a concern if trying to recover from a fall because you have to catch it just right. This one with the straight bar makes getting a good grasp far more likely. Although the curved handle cost a fourth as much on sale, and does the job, I do like this straight white one as a handle far better — as does my wife. I was concerned about the film that builds up on shower walls that likely consists of minerals in addition to soap. The instructions on a similar package that I saw suggested cleaning with rubbing alcohol. That was easy. I took swabs, like the ones they use at clinics before giving a shot/ injection, and wiped down each of the two points for the suction cup would go until I was down to the surface of the tile. In retrospect, it did an effective job. Between the alcohol cleaning, and the fluid rubbed on the suction cup, this vertical bar may as well be bolted to the wall. With proper smooth surfaces (smooth like glass and not at all porous) and thorough cleaning this bar is expected to be up for a long time. We do check the attachment every time we're going to get into the tub/shower, as you should. We're in the process of buying a new house and this bar will be there doing its job assuring our balance.

Suction cups are properly spaced.
This is a well-designed product. Many other similar handles do NOT space the suction cups far enough apart. When that happens, some part of one of the suction cups is placed over the grout seam for a standard sized shower tile. When that's the case, the suction cups CANNOT do their job to the fullest, and the handle is likely to lose suction. Usually when you need it the most. It's not hard to imagine slipping in the shower, grabbing for an improperly-spaced handle, and having it come off of the shower tile, and you fall in the shower with the handle firmly in your hand after it's become unattached from the shower tile. This handle spaces the cups out properly, so that NONE of the suction ups are over the grout seams. The instructions state very clearly that you should NOT install the handle in such a fashion that the cups are over the grout seams. I feel more secure with this handle in my shower than any other handle, because the cups are properly spaced, and the scenario I outlined in the previous paragraph is less likely to occur. Of course with any handle, it's good to test it out before beginning a shower.

Great Suction! Adds Stability For Anyone
After severely straining a calf muscle, I found it a little difficult to maintain balance in the shower. I looked for grip bars, but didn't want to drill holes in the shower. Fortunately, our shower is a "one piece" high-gloss acrylic material and I didn't have to deal with tiles. This OXO grip with 3" suction cups has two clips that "activate" the suction, and once in place, it REALLY holds. It definitely helps with balance, and adds a measure of security for those with minor instabilities who hate taking baths. Just being well over 6 feet tall and trying to wash ones feet is justification enough for this bar! It is up to the usual OXO high quality and well-designed products. I highly recommend this bar, and the price is right. Installation and Use Notes: Oxo recommends that you reattach the bar every time you take a shower, although I think that that may have something to do with tiled shower stalls and product liability. They also state that it isn't meant to support your full weight. Initially that sounds a little silly as though someone would want to do pullups in the shower. However, there might be some who "hang" the bar too high and using it while bending over to pick up soap could put undue pull on the bar. After some experimentation, I recommend waist height and perpendicular. ew

Easy to install
Bought these for my mother-in-law to use in our home. Everything has been great with the exception of not knowing to check the suction regularly. I guess that may be something that people with experience using handicapped devices may know. We didn’t and when she grabbed the bar, it came off in her hand. Luckily, her nurse was behind her. We check it regularly now. Love how easy to use and generally has a strong hold.

Very disappointed
I am not sure if it is our tile or the one suction cup of the bar, but one end (always the same end) of the bar continually became "unstuck" in just a matter of minutes. I suctioned the cup on our mirror and it held longer, but could not be trusted. I was hoping the bar would help as an in-between stabilizer between two stationary bars in our bathroom. If the suction cups were a bit smaller it might have worked. Our tile is 4x4-inches and it seemed to fit without hanging over the grout, but one end just would not hold. The box had been opened before we received the bar, so I am wondering if it was a returned item....not sure about that and do not want to accuse. I did not return it because I had inadvertantly tossed all of the packing material before trying the bar. (My mistake!) I destroyed it so someone else would not use it in case it was the suction cup.

Excellent Grips for the Shower and Tub
EXCELLENT!!! I have been using these for awhile now and have been overly pleased with them. I had the ones offered by the companies that supply them for senior citizens and others who are in need of some help in the shower only for them to disappoint me. They did not hold up and when I slipped in the shower and grabbed one it came off the wall and I went crashing. The OXO Good grips hold strong and "for me" are much easier to grab onto. I have 4 in my shower in the places I need them to move around without falling. Two of them are placed where I get into the tub which is hard to step over for me and they are very good at helping me get in and out w/o falling. Because they hold stronger to the wall I don't have the fear of them letting go. I am a large size person and they have held strong for me thus far. They take a bit of strength to get them on but once on they are more secure and so far none have just "fallen off" like the others I have had in the past. I truly do love these and they make me feel so much more secure while taking a shower and getting in and out of the tub.

It hasn't come loose
I've had occasion to use several suction products in my shower, including two grip (grab?) bars. My tile is not textured, but it's not as smooth as glass. Most of the suction devices used for hanging things like squeegees, rinse hoses, brushes, simply won't stay on it. All of them invariably fall off. I have two grab bars that work better -- one of them perfectly (it has stayed securely in place for over two years) and another one that eventually comes loose after about 8 weeks and has to be reinstalled. It's easy to do that, hardly takes more than a few seconds, but it always makes me think there's a chance that it'll come off in an emergency and let me fall. The OXO Good Grips Suction Grip Bar, thankfully, functions like the first one; it holds very, very tightly for a very long time. Grip bars always come with a printed warning that they are NOT for supporting a person's weight. I understand the necessity of that warning, and I hope I never have to use it for that, but I must say that I think that if I did ever have to hang from this one, the tile would probably come of the wall before the grab bar came off the tile. I have peace of mind using it, so much so that I ordered another one.

Sometimes its works. sometimes not.
I purchased 2 of these. One of them is working perfectly, with no problems and we love having it. The other one stays on the wall of the shower for a day or two and then one side comes loose when you grab it. We keep reattaching it, and it seems secure for a day or two, then the one side comes loose again. There's no difference in the area where the two sides are attached. We even flipped it over and the same side still won't stay securely. The manual says you have to "test it" every time you use it, so I wouldn't recommend this as a safety device. Funny, that one works great and the other, not!

A Reliable Hand Grab Bar
Tried a few other hand grab bars which kept on falling in the bathtub. I took a chance on this one and was pleasantly surprised. The trick for me in having a good suction, is to moisten the back of the suction cups lightly with water. It's like moistening a stamp. Too much water will make the bar fall. The suction cups on this model are bigger than others out there. It's now been 2 weeks and it is still holding strong after multiple showers. Now satisfied that I feel secure in the shower. It is a pretty grab bar that fits in well with my bathroom accessories. This is a plus for me. Easy to install as long as you clean the tiles or the surface you are placing it on. I used rubbing alcohol, which removes any greasy substance that might be on the surface. You want a good contact with the moistened suction cups. I recommend this grab bar.

Ideal for footrest in a long bath
I bought this specifically to allow me to sit in my bath without sliding underwater! I'm short and my bath is longer than is comfortable for me to lay in. I fix this to the bottom of the bath before filling it with water and it's perfect for me to be able to rest my feet against so I can relax in the bath comfortably. I checked that the width of my bath was wide enough for the bar and that it would be flat where the suction cups have to be placed. It's worked well for me but you do need to bear in mind that this isn't the manufacturer's intended use.

This product is of excellent quality and performs very well for my use
I am a senior with severe arthritis. I have real problems getting in and out of the tub shower without any support. This product is of excellent quality and performs very well for my use. Now I can go and take a shower without any worries of falling down. It gives me plenty of help in my stability and balance situations. It hasn't fallen off yet and is just as sturdy as the day I put it on. I use it for what it's meant for and I think that is why it's performing the way it is. It has given me my confidence back on doing things on my own. I recommend it to anyone who needs help to balance themselves. In my opinion, OXO is a very reliable and well built product
