Well I took it to Poland and managed a bit with it, but pronounication is so hard!!! The book is great with all the important words you would need for a trip to poland. At worst you can just show them the words in the book. I kinda just gave up trying to pronounce anything as I was rubbish at it. I knew a lot of Polish in Poland spoke English, and most of them did, but I thought it was kinda rude to not even bother trying to learn a few words. Anyway, great lightweight book, would recommend.

This little phrase book is for the person who doesn't speak a word of Polish. it's a BBC job. Very easy to use, it has the Polish, and English equivalent words plus how to pronounce the words. But just getting your tongue around the Polish words is difficult, but practice makes perfect so the saying goes. I found it handy when I visited Poland recently.It has the basic words, which is what a learner wants, and it is small enough to fit in your Pocket, it's really ideal for the tourist.

This little book certainly has the words and phrases you'll be looking for, but it's structured in such a way that you'll have trouble finding them with any kind of useful speed. For example the menu reader is arranged in alphabetical order of the English translations, not the Polish terms. (In use, I think you're more likely to want to know that 'kurczak' means 'chicken' than to want to translate 'chicken' into 'kurczak'). Also the imitative pronunciation seems pretty crude.

i find the phonetic spellings really helpful. the size of the book is perfect for travel too which is great as im travelling with ryanair...but yes would recommend this to beginners, not everything is relevant to me as i wont be staying in a hotel or travelling much but the first chapter particularly is brilliant as it has basic phrases and conversation pieces. Could do with maybe more general conversation, there isnt much you can say in a family setting, its more travel and holiday related in my opinion.

My sister and I got full use of this book while visiting Poland. We loved the way that the pronounciations were written, so that we could converse with the locals. If we were stuck, we pointed to a sentence in english and they pointed to a sentence in Polish. We even managed to put together a sentence to buy a lump of coal - for good luck to the bride and groom. The man actually gave us the coal for nothing - I think we provided his entertainment for the day.

I didn't realise how small it was but actually it will be good to keep in my pocket.I like that it has the actual word and then how you say it phonetically (because I find it so difficult knowing how to pronounce polish words)it will be really handy when I go to visit Poland.

Very impressed, quick delivery, book very easy to use. Anyone visiting Poland or wanting to brush up on their polish, i can highly recommend.

A very helpful book but I feel the spell-outs of how to pronounce things could be better and easier to glance at. It takes time, for me, to understand HOW i'm meant to say something.

Seems a good book. Not actually travelling for another three weeks or so - pronunciation guide for Polish (which it possesses for EVERY ENTRY) IS ESSENTIAL. And I thought German was difficult...
