The Sustainability Secret: Rethinking Our Diet to Transform the World Hardcover – October 20, 2015

"The Sustainability Secret", and the corresponding movie "Cowspiracy" have absolutely transformed my life. Like most Americans I considered myself a carnivore, in fact I took pride in being a "meat-eating man" because I felt that it somehow made me more masculine. HOW IGNORANT I WAS. I never thought about the environmental impact of eating meat and animal products because nobody talks about it. We have become focused on the war on fossil fuels without ever questioning the severe impact of our own DIET. This book provides astounding information and statistics on the UNSUSTAINABLE American Diet mostly based on animal products.Due to this book and movie, I have become completely vegan for 6 months now and I am LOVING it. I even had a full blood panel recently and my cholesterol dropped 20%, my blood pressure dropped, my resting heart rate dropped to a much healthier level and I have lost 12 pounds. I feel great! Best of all? I am not contributing to the environmental destruction caused by the animal agriculture industry.Read this book and your life will be forever changed. As a 6-foot-4 man, people are surprised that I am vegan. "Where do you get your protein?" they ask. It's pretty simple, I eat all plant-based foods and get 60 to 80 grams per day which is the recommended daily value for a man my size (6'4'' 205 pounds). Americans eat far too much protein (120 to 150 grams per day on average), and emerging research suggests that high protein diets contribute to obesity. Its time to transform our way of thinking. Let's all do our part to eliminate (or minimize) our reliance on animal products."Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." —Albert Einstein.

I am a great fan of the author's accompanying film, "Cowspiracy, The Sustainability Secret." It changed our lives and that of many around us, with whom I've shared DVDs. Watch the film on Netflix and then get the book for more information and insights from the experts Kip and Keegan interviewed in the film. I found myself underlining many facts and figures to enhance outreach I've been doing based on the film, such as the prediction that if we continue as we are, we will exhaust the Ogallala Aquifer beneath the Great Plains by 2030! Or, that some 25-30% of cows are still conscious while being skinned or dismembered. It's important information that I wish everyone in the world would or could get. As someone reading this, you can, so please do. With a simple, healthy dietary change, you can change the world, one meal at a time. The authors provide concise, clear information from health experts that dispels the various myths our culture has that suggest that a vegan diet would be inadequate (protein, calcium, etc.).. I have both the print and the digital version and I found the Kindle version much more accessible. First, I could make the font larger. Second, you can so easily click on a footnote and see the exact source and then go right back. Plus, you can highlight, etc. And you don't waste paper. On the other hand, if you sell books at events, it's a good one to have visible.

The information is so important. More people should get involved and work to educate those that have no idea what state our planet is actually in

Keegan Kuhn has a very important message for the world. This book comes after his wonderful film 'Cowspiracy'. Everyone needs to see this film to learn why what they eat is SO important for the environment. If everyone made a change to their diet, that would be the easiest and fastest way to reduce global warming and climate change. The planet is being destroyed because of unsustainable food practices. Thanks Keegan Kuhn for writing this book and making your film so that everyone can be aware of what is happening.

Such a great book but REPRINT IT WITH LARGER PRINT!! I love your movie, love the concept of the book, but whoever designed the layout should be fired immediately. I thought another reviewer was crazy when he mentioned the small print, but it's unbelievably tiny! SO much white space and such tiny print. Not a pleasure to try reading. Showed it to a few people and everyone was shocked at the tiny print surrounded by so much white space. I can see fine for reading with no glasses, but I need to pick up a magnifying glass. No I'm not 80.As I said, LOVED the movie, had great hopes for the book, but people will buy it and not end up reading it because of the bad typeface decision. REPRINT THE BOOK SO WE CAN READ IT PLEASE. I cannot give it out as a gift unless it's reprinted.

I have been vegetarian for a long time but I am now going vegan thanks to Cowspiracy's amazing work. Such am important film and book. Also, watch Earthlings.....with Cowspiracy, you will stop eating animals and put our planet first instead of our tastebuds. Earthlings adds in the torture of animals for people to wear their skin and fur, testing on animals so you can have eyeshadow or facial cream and the list goes on. Such important work that is contained in these pages that will forever change your life!

Despite the very small font size, the book is a very important one. It should be read by every person in grade 9 or older ... if you only read one chapter ... let it be the chapter about what really goes on at a Factory Farm. Be sure to see the new film Cowspiracy streaming on netflix ...

This book convinced me that after 40 years as a vegetarian, I need to go further and become vegan. It's the only sustainable option. I love cheese and yoghurt, but I love the planet even more.
