What type of non-flammable/non-hazardous aqueous preservative do you use? i collect insects & preserve them in alcohol. the spiders tend to curl up

Hi, I don't think that this prep will help. Initially, we preserve the spiders in ethanol, then transfer them to a solution water with 0.2% potassium sorbate, adjusted to pH 5.0 with citric acid. We use a different methods for preparing more relaxed specimens with legs spread. These are injected with Prefer Concentrate, a glyoxal based fixative from Anatech, spread on a pinning board and stored in a standard solution of Prefer for at least 3 days.

Are they dyed? It doesn't look like it to me. Are they dead? Yep.

Can they b transfered from the aqeous solution to something more stable?

Yes. No problem, though you may want to take in a few step with increasing percentages of you alternative.

This was such a great gift for my sister

This was such a great gift for my sister! She absolutely loved it! I recommend this for anyone who loves spiders! My sister just enjoys looking at it and uses it for a paper weight. The female and male black widow spiders are indeed real. I've seen black widow's in real life before, so I know they are real.
