I am taking Hydrocodone for a serious spinal injury and I have been for many years. With that said. The hydrocodone has caused severe constipation issues. My doctor has prescribed everything from softeners to actual harsh laxatives and none of them worked without serious and pain full side effects. I could definitely see a difference in these compared to the ones I was taking. These are very powerful and hit my stomach pretty hard (the other ones didn't). I remembered seeing other people in the "one-star" section saying that they had the same problem with these so rather than rating them a single star and throwing them away (as those people did) I decided to do some research about it first. I found many things on the subject so here are just a few. Unless your symptoms are drastic and affecting you dramatically, don’t stop taking the probiotics – this period should pass. Simply downgrade your dose to every other day or cut in half. It will usually not last more than 3-7 days. Instead of taking on an empty stomach (which some say when probiotics are most effective), for the time being, start taking with food. You can change to taking on an empty stomach after your body has adjusted. *Be sure to know the quality of your probiotic. All supplements are not created equal! Health is wealth, it's true! (and ill health cost costs a lot!) Here's a daily/every-other-day supplement we all need because chances are your diet isnt supplying it, and now doctors are saying good 'gut' health is key to preventing/avoiding many illnesses and pain. This stands out among other choices because it's a high quality probiotic for a good price that works. Don't waste money on cheap stuff that makes promises and doesn't work because it's not fresh (hugely important) and strong enough (at least 30million is the minimum recommendation)! Honestly there are about 3 brands that really work, this is one. I say stick with them, try another if you want, no need to overthink these things. I bought this for an older (early 60s) beloved family member who had colon-related problems for a few years and recently surgery for it. After leaving the hospital the doctor gave her a poor quality probiotic that didn't work, so she didn't understand why people raved about how good they can be... until I bought this for her as a gift (had it shipped to her house). Two days later I got a happy email saying "Wow! What's in this stuff?! Fantastic", and though she's not thrilled to need to buy probiotics at all- an added expense in a tight income home, she knows this is quality and for about $1 a day, worth it to improve her health and make her feel good again/take away daily pains. You don't want to be cheap with these- they will cost around $25-35 for (approx 1 months) supply, something to accept. If that's too much, cut costs elsewhere, or even use this every other day. It will still work. Dietitians insist to chose a probiotic that's at least 25-30 Billion count, slow release and was stored right (low temps are best, out of sun/humidity/refrigerated if possible). Yes this will go through lousy conditions on the way to be shipped after you order it but one time exposure won't destroy the quality and effectiveness, put your mind to rest about that. I purchased the Item for use after some weeks antiobiotic use, and was drawn to the fact it uses 12-strains of bacillus, and was of a high-count. Also, due to my age, and a not stellar diet, I knew my e-colli was not doing the two-step. It was, on that count, very effective. May I add, TOO effective! It was able to restore a consistency I had not realized was there anymore. However, it also became necessary, at want at being insensitive, necessary to take a shower after every bm if I wanted to be fully "clean". I now know where bidets would have come in handy. And I am only getting into these details, because if you are spending this kind of money, and reading these kinds of numbers, you probably want to have measurables and observables. As nice as it was, to have bms every day, I must admit, after going away for a week, and having a "more normal" to me, that is, bm, I felt untethered to the toilet. So, that is why I give it 5xs.
