I purchased this the first time 11 years ago when I was traveling for work and adopted a kitten. I knew he would be spending a fair amount of time in the crate and wanted something bigger for him to have room to move around a little. This crate is spacious enough for him to fit comfortably and turn around. Well made and sturdy it has withstood kids climbing on top and boxes during a variety of moves. The top loading door is great for more feral cats (I live in the country) and vet visits.

I bought this crate because I have a large Himalayan cat that weighs about 17 lbs. We had a slightly smaller crate with the plastic door and he is strong enough he pushed the door so hard it flexed and he got out. The handle also broke when we tried to pick him up. We put him in this one and he didn't even get excited, I believe because he had more than enough room. My other cats also like it. The top opening is great or loading because you can drop them right in, instead of having to try and push them in butt first. It is larger than any I have owned before, but it is worth it so the cats can sit up inside instead of having to lay down. It is easy to put together, btw the top wires of the door do not go into the holes, they fit into the 2 points you see at the top corners of the door. I wondered if I too got the wrong size door but it fits perfectly. The instructions could tell you that, they are just line drawings with few details. the side go together with metal bolts and heavy duty plastic nuts. They work well and it seems very sturdy and held my big cat to his satisfaction. It is definitely worth it, especially for my larger cats and especially at the 44% off price. Update: Sadly my Himalayan passed 4 years ago so that give you an idea how long I have owned mine. I just want to say that I still love them, I bought a 2nd one and have them now for a few years and they are still in great shape. I see a couple of people saying their cats noses were scratched, it is a firm plastic, but have never had a kitty injure themselves and it only takes a few seconds to make sure they haven't sustained any damage or have anything that a cat can scratch themselves on, a quick filing can take down any rough spots if you find some, again I have not had that problem. I only use them to take my cats to the vet, but have a few cats so they do get used. I love the 24", it is big enough that even my very large cats can turn around in them. I have had many other people at the vet's office ask about them and where to find one. The top load is the only way to go, much better than trying to force them into the end door where they can stretch out far to make it hard to put them in. They are great crates. Update: 8 years later and both still look like new and they have transported a lot of cats to the vet and back. Best carriers I have ever owned.

The first time I ordered it I received it without the screws and bolts. Amazon customer service agent was kind enough to send me a replacement. The screws and bolts are very tiny and require a small screwdriver to install. I like the color green. I like the feature of opening the top and placing my cat inside the carrier from the top. It's much easier than the traditional carriers. I like the fact that if my cat goes potty in there I can clean it out easily because it is completely plastic on the inside, which makes it much easier to keep sanitary. Clean up is a breeze! If you're looking for a travel carrier for your cat or small dog I think it will be fine. I can pick up my pet easily and transport them where I need to go. It appears to be sturdy and should last me a while. As far as stability is concerned, it's not flimsy or caving in like other non plastic pet carriers sometimes do.

About a year ago, my boyfriend and I adopted a six month old kitten and of course, we needed a carrier for her, so we got a smaller Petmate carrier. As she grew, we realized it was getting a little small for her. We took her on a trip to Florida in it and although she could lay down fine, there was absolutely no room for her to stand. When we adopted our second kitten last September, we knew that we had to get something bigger so we could put both of the cats in it if we needed to. At the end of November, we decided we were going to Minnesota for Christmas and were bringing the cats with us, so I got on Amazon and started looking at carriers. We were debating between this and the Aspen Pet Taxi Fashion Kennel, also by Petmate, because it was a bigger version of our old one. Both of the carriers we looked at were of the larger size, NOT small. The size of this carrier was the 24". We liked the Aspen Pet Taxi because it had two compartments on the top for holding treats, which was great, but we ultimately decided on this carrier because of the two door option. I must say, this was absolutely the right choice. The top door allows more light in and makes the carrier feel more open instead of a cramped little compartment. Also, the two door option allows us two different ways to put the cats in, which we have found using the top door makes life much easier (not as much struggling!). The biggest plus is that not only can a cat sit up in this carrier, both of our cats fit comfortably in it with plenty of room to move around. The cats stayed in the carrier for the majority of the trip to Minnesota, but I think that had to do with them feeling more comfortable in the carrier than out in the open car since we would leave the carrier open at home and let them explore as they wanted. I bought this carrier for only $28, which was an absolute steal in my opinion, and am waiting for the price to come down closer to $30 to buy another one since it would be nice for each cat to have her own. The only downside is that because it is so large and the cat has room to move around, it is very unsteady to carry it since the cat moves her weight back and forth from the front to the back. However, this is a very small issue that does not affect my rating of this carrier. As far as the price goes on Amazon compared to other stores (PetSmart, PetCo, Walmart, etc.) it is about the same everywhere I looked, maybe a little cheaper on Amazon. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this carrier, not only for cats but for smaller dogs as well. Even at $36, it is still a good deal. UPDATE: Since I've had some comments about having two cats in one carrier, I thought I'd clarify a little in my review. The one cat was a year and a half and the other a six month old kitten who wasn't full grown yet. We only had the carrier doors closed when we were getting in and out of the car and when we were in high traffic areas. Other than that, the cats had free roam of the car and access to a litter box but chose to sleep in the carrier together most of the time. Once our kitten had reached adult size, we bought another one of these carriers and currently use both when traveling or taking the cats to the vet. We could probably manage to use one carrier for both cats when making short trips, the vet's office for example, but the carrier can get quite heavy and hard to carry with two cats inside.

Really sturdy and nice crate. I've had this for a few years now actually and it's pretty sizable and great for any cats who may be a bit aggressive towards people other than the owner. My cat for example.

So quick and easy to assemble. Feels sturdy and door latches are secure. I bought this to take my newly adopted cat to the vet. The medium size gave my cat plenty of room. It was easy to get my cat in the carrier using the top door. My vet tech told me that she appreciated that I chose this carrier. She said the top door made her job easier and wished everyone had one.

Amazon n'a pas pu obtenir une poignée de remplacement, donc j'ai proposé une solution alternative que j'ai acceptée. J'aurais été 4 ou peut-être 5 étoiles, perdu en raison d'un contrôle de mauvaise qualité et la boîte elle-même juste pour le prix. D'accord, j'espère que ces problèmes ne se produisent pas souvent.

I wanted a large, hard sided crate-style carrier to take my cats together to their vet appointments (they're litter mates so they go for their routine appointments at the same time) that they would feel more secure in than a soft sided carrier. This fit the bill nicely! I haven't taken them to the vet in it yet (their next appointment is later this week) but I've practiced putting them in the carrier and carrying them around my apartment in it and they don't seem to get as stressed out or make as many desperate efforts to get out as they have done with their soft-sided carrier. I have high hopes that future trips to the vet, though they won't be stress free, they could be a little less rough on them. The carrier was not too hard to assemble (other than that one of the holes was not neatly drilled to the right size, but I was able to force it through by hammering it in). It's sturdy and the doors are both secure and open and close smoothly. I haven't had to clean it out yet, but it seems like it would be easy to clean up any messes inside thanks to the top-opening door. Happy with this purchase so far.

sehr gute Verarbeitung wie von Petmate gewohnt, die Lösung mit der Tür auf der Oberseite ist sehr gut verwirklicht, sehr stabil und sehr einfach zu bedienen, bei anderen Kennels mit solch einer Tür lassen sich die Verschlussclips oft nur schwer bedienen und sobald das transportierte Tier etwas schwerer ist biegt sich alles auseinander, ist hier nicht der Fall. Auch die Fronttür ist sehr leicht bedienbar, da klemmt nix. Der Kennel ist voll verschraubt, was ihn sehr stabil macht, aber leider auch ein Auseinandernehmen beim Tierarzt unmöglich. Trotz der stabilen Bauweise ist der Kennel leicht, hält aber trotzdem was aus. Kleine Minuspunkte sind, dass die Tür oben größer sein könnte und insgesamt Platz im Innenraum verschenkt wurde durch die etwas merkwürdige Form und die Aufsatzflächen der 2 Hälften, die verschraubt werden. Ich wollte den Kennel eigentlich für 2 Katzen, dafür ist er aber eigentlich zu klein, die angegebenen Maße täuschen da.
