Mastering the Art of Fabric Printing and Design Hardcover – February 8, 2012

There is an in depth and easy to understand chapter on "Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator", two of the most widely used software programs in textile and fabric design. As well as, chapters on color theory, various patterns, sourcing design idea's, hand printing technics, types of fabrics, dyes and inks; as well as interviews with numerous textile design artists. The book is full of bright and beautiful photographs, and is structured in a logical manner.I do wish the chapter on screen printing was a bit more in depth, but I still highly recommend this book.It is both my professional and personal opinion that Laurie Wisbrun has authored the very best book on fabric printing and design that is currently available to textile artists and designers.

Nice quality book with linen cover (my cover showed up a little warped, but probably just a fluke). Great book for someone thinking about fabric design and just getting started. The title "MASTERING the art..." is probably a little over zealous. "BEGINNING" would be more of a correct word. The book does contain a lot of good information though. It covers the basics for designing both digitally and by hand. There are several interviews with successful fabric designers included. It also has lots of good tips, guidelines, and ideas.

This is a very well written resource book.

This is a great book for anyone interested in getting into textile design as a student, novice, or crafter. I wish I had this book a year or two ago when I was trying to figure out all this stuff on my own. Even though I already know how to do most of the projects in this book, it is still very useful to me for the resources it gives. The many interviews and profiles of textile artists provide a lot of inspiration, too. The photos and illustrations on every page are gorgeous, and I find the design of the book easy to navigate as well.

I liked this book because it treated so many aspects of fabric design: marketing, hand printing, following trends, understanding color issues, etc. I also liked all the samples of fabric that were included. I am sure there is much more to learn about this entire field of endeavor but this gave me a taste of what is involved. I would recommend this to anyone with an initial interest in the topic.

I've been a fan of Laurie Wisbrun's designs for quite a while so I had great expectations for this book and I wasn't disappointed. This book is great at being succinct in its explanations with enough information to be truly helpful and not too much to overwhelm. It broke down the process of creating, printing and selling fabric so well and gave tips, tricks and hints along the way. I don't make it through many of these types of books but this one kept me engaged from beginning to end. It's given me a lot to think about and allowed me to draft a plan for my own designs.

First off it’s a great book... then it came packaged very well...and it was in excellent shape... and the price wasn’t bad either.. thanks. Would definitely buy from you again.

I really like that it showed me how to do repeats. I am using basic photo software (PSE11), but with her instructions, I was able to do repeats that I didn't think I could do. I am only 3/4 way through but I thought it has been very informative. I had never designed fabric before but now, within two or three weeks, I have designed 6 different fabrics and adapted them to three difference color families.

Brilliant Quality Book as an addition to my surface pattern design book reference.

This book is explained simply. It explains various technics. I love it !

Read it through in a few sittings - very clear and attractive in its presentation and encouraging in its approach.

As a graphic designer, wanting to grab all the information I can possibly find about surface pattern designs, this book is going to have a place in my studio's library. Vers good book, I recommend!
