Best bang for my bucks babies! Guitar Center will just have to widen their scope a little. This is a simple mechanism that should not cost more than this unit. Don't waste your time and spend more than you need to. This baby will do the tricks that the picks can't do. Since I just also got the new Jackson with the Floyd Rose tremolo bridge today, it was perfect timing for a sound check. I'm pretending to know how to play like Robert Fripp in the video here, so ignore my lack of humility and just see how easy it is to use this sucker. Note that I just got it today, just opened the package...the battery was already installed...plus an extra battery too. Checked it out for a minute before making the video for my review. ... who is that masked man?😜 The second part is actually the beginning of the piece, and then I tried the Joyo to add textures. I always wanted an ebow but could not justify the expense for my hobby. This version was something I felt I could afford and I am pretty happy with it so far. It only works on one string at a time and it has guides that go over the strings next to the one you are playing. Clearly if you play high or low E strings (low B on a 7-string guitar) you may have problems holding it correctly, but with practice you should do ok. These devices work by sensing the string vibration and then providing magnetic feedback to the same string and in that manner creating the sustain they are famous for. You can place them on a quiet string and it seems to slowly pick up on the ambient resonance of the string and will start producing sound, but it works better if you strike the sting to get it going. I am not sure just what difference the switch makes, but I need to play with it some more and try different settings. Perhaps without distortion it's more obvious what it changes. Anyway, play whatever note you want for as long as the battery power lasts! I am going to see if I can use a strap to hold the ebow clone in place so I can play notes with two hands and not just one. Recommended for guitar and steel pedal fun! This is an unpaid, uncompensated review.

I got he sound stone sustainer and immediately felt ripped off. It was terrible, unpredictable and for that reason unusable. About 2 years later I decided I wanted to try another sustainer but couldn't justify an ebow. After watching many reviews I decided to try the joyo. Its consistent and so much easier to use than the sound stone. It's more comfortable to hold and almost twice as large. I wish it was slightly smaller but it's a massive improvement to what I had. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll use it but it's versatile for ambient tones to play over especially paired with reverb, echo and looper pedals. I was worried that I'd regret no going with an ebow or that it would be a gimmick that I quickly became bored with. But I'm finding that I try to make use of it more.

I’m not an ambient player, as I come from the rock n roll side of guitar. However, I’m always looking for ways to fill out space, create continuity, or even double riffs in unexpected ways without always using synths. This solves a lot of those issues and is a blast to play around with. For sound reference- A LOT like the GeoShred guitar app from the keyboardist of Dream Theatre and much closer to a sustainiac pickup than a freeze pedal. I’ve never used an ebow in the past so can’t compare. I actually got this because I’m recovering from major wrist surgery on my picking hand and can’t pick for a few months. Surprised how fast I got the hang of positioning it over the DGB strings. If you’re a guitarist who picks up a slide or throws on a Qtron when bored, you won’t regret this. If you record or loop, get it. I’m excited to use this live once healed up.

This is a clone of the Ebow Plus, but less polished, rougher vibration, you end up getting the harmonic version on either setting, and though it’s harder to “get it going” it will sustain forever to the point of causing your strings to strike it when open, causing a horrible sound, and if you listen to the end of this video you can hear the string vibrating so wildly it rattles, a pull off to an open string can easily strike the device for a horrible noise due to needing to hold it closer to the string and the roughness of the vibration gives it an always distorted sound. It also has inconsistent volume levels when changing frets, and even goes dead, worse as you fret closer to the headstock. For this and the real deal, I wish it would be easier to move from string to string, but it always requires a precise movement directly centered on the next string, and rests on the two strings between it. For this price I will hold onto it, and I don’t hate it, and the way you use it is pretty much the same as the Ebow plus, I returned my Ebow plus, because I always end up disliking the limitations of these devices, but, after recording this video with it, I’d say buy the Ebow plus.

I was able to get up and running with this unit right out of the box. It came preloaded with a 9 volt battery and there is another one in the box. I like the sound of both of the tone variations. The rear switch position is the basic tone and the front position is the "feedback" tone which adds higher pitched overtones to the sound. It does take a little getting used to playing melodies all on a single string but that isn't a major hurtle to overcome. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. I've wanted a similar device for a long time but could never quite justify spending the price of the well known brand (you know which one I'm referring to). This was easy on the wallet and gets the job done.

It worked just fine for 2 years until I picked it up yesterday and it did not turn on anymore. I tried different batteries. Muiltimeter indicates an open circuit. I will try DYI surgery on it...

The product delivers, I just don't like what it delivers. No quality issues, easy to use, but I guess I was hoping to get some clean tones out of it but by nature it vibrates a string harder and longer than picking or strumming ever could, the ear is used to the attack and decay of picking a string and it ringing out slowly getting softer/cleaner. But this ramps up for a while and then stays aggressively vibrating the string, which it's doing its job, it's just not what I was hoping for. I think leaning into the grit and using it with a slide or something would really let this thing be what it is, intense/aggressive.

Works as intended, a nice product and great fun. One thing that surprised me was the switch down, overtone mode. As I can no longer own a real amplifier, I really miss the singing feedback tones that could be found at high volume. Using the overtone mode, it is possible to recreate some of those feedback qualities even within a digital workspace and when using humbuckers. Its been so long since I've had this luxury because the volume required is usually too much if you have neighbours. I'm super happy for this reason. Combined with a slide and the notes really sing out. Although plastic, if feels decent quality but I question the lifecycle of the design if damaged.
