I bought the soft cover book and also the kindle book so I would have it on my phone. Very helpful to identify plants while foraging.

Great for Teaching Kids
I bought this book for my nine-year-old who, after reading My Side of the Mountain, became really interested in finding local plants for us to forage. I love that the beginning discusses the importance of being good stewards to the land as well as other important wildcrafting and environmental practices. The meat of the book though is the plant identification section, I live in Eastern Washington and was worried that, as with other "Pacific Northwest" books, it would only focus on the west side of the state, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a large diversity of plants that we do have in our area. Each plant also has suggestions on how to prepare and eat what you forage. I do wish there were a few more ID photos of each plant, but we have been able to find and wildcraft elderberries (which we turned into a syrup for winter coughs,) as well as oregon grapes, so far. Moreover the book has made him (and me now!) hungry for more knowledge about edible native plants and foraging.

A valuable book for my library
This is an excellent book. It is well written with clear descriptions and helpful tips. The images are beautiful and helpful in identifying the plants that are listed in this book. I have lent this book to a wild-crafter who is impressed with the content. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about edible plants here in the PNW!

Brilliant layout, content and binding
Exactly what you need to know. The only way it could be better is if it was waterproof and lighter weight. Keep this and another in a gallon-size ziplockโฆ

The author gives us insights into the plants, how to identify them, which parts are edible, where and when to gather, how to gather, how to eat the plant, and future harvests as well as seasonal harvesting opportunities. It isn't an in depth guide, but it is well put together and offers perspective in respect to our connection to nature and our responsibility to our planet in it's care. He also offers further reading suggestions to supplement what he has offered.

My Favorite Foraging Book!
Absolutely Fantastic Book! Great pictures and exactly what the title says it is! I was born in Oregon, traveled the world and have come back to really explore the Northwest again as an appreciative mature (linear time older) man. This is a great first Foraging book and a must have if your into Health, Wild foods, Cooking, Survival foods, Botany, etc. Thank you so much Douglas Deur!

This book is absolutely amazing. He talks about so much more than just plant identification. He talks about the connection to plants, the way to harvest so that you don't over harvest, the Aboriginal use and connection to plants. The pictures are beautiful and in colour. This book could easily be the only one you need for plant foraging. You will not be disappointed. The only downside is that this isn't a book you can really bring into the bush. Other than that, it's absolutely perfect.

Gift for a foraging friend!
After reading the reviews I hesitated a bit due to the size of the guide and its impracticality for use in the field. However, knowing my friend's interests, I decided to give it a go and she was absolutely delighted with it! As she is quite knowledgeable already about wild edibles in B.C., the fact that she was so happy with it as a resource speaks highly of the content and layout. The pictures are very clear and there is enough information to be a continuously useful go-to resource.

Amazing book, with great
Amazing book, with great, detailed content. It is on the larger/heavier side for those concerned about packing light on long treks. This was supposed to be a gift, however it arrived with some minor damage to one of the corners making it shy of presentable, not sure if it was a shipping/packaging issue or the book had been used before. I've chosen to keep it for myself.

Amazing - Great Pictures
I love it. I was like a kid in a candy shop. Iโm so excited to finally be able to identify all the berries I see here on the island. Iโve always wondered if certain ones are edible or not. Looking forward to making a wild berry pie this summer :)
