Oatey 42150 Shower Stall Drain Brass

My drain arrived with the pipe seal and castle nut tool included. Some of the reviews suggest it does not come with these parts, but mine certainly did. The tool is certainly robust enough to cinch down the rubber pipe seal, but unsure of this (when purchasing) I also bought an aftermarket tool which takes a 3/8th inch driver. However, this really wasn't needed - the included tool is more than adequate to the task. The drain works perfectly on a 2 inch, ABS drain pipe. As an aside note, the original shower used a plastic drain with a rubber seal and no thread or castle nut. As a result it leaked, slowly, over many years causing extensive damage. Consequently, the old shower had to be ripped out and a new one installed. I bought this brass part because I needed a better solution, and I am confident this drain will endure - it appears well made.

Drain was exactly what I thought it would be. Easy to install in a fiberglass shower pan in a bathroom remodel. The brass drain gives me a better gut feel over using a plastic part.

I cannot imagine using plastic with this kind of durability available for a shower base. Easily installed, will not leak if installed according to directions.

We installed a walk-in shower to replace our old tub/shower setup. This drain fit just perfect and works great. Highly recommend.

Hefty drain for years of use

I bought an American Standard "neo-angle" shower base and glass walls, but the base came with the plastic version of this drain. Since these things had to be imported (we live in Japan), AND--our house is slab on grade with only 20cm "crawl space," I didn't want to risk something's going wrong with the plastic version, so I ordered this brass one separately. I particularly like the solid feel of the compression-nut threads in comparison with those on the plastic one. The Amazon price was acceptable; the shipping costs--nearly twice the cost of the drain itself--were not. I bit the bullet on this one due to the serious nature of the expenditure. Arrival was a week or ten days earlier than suggested, and that makes me happy; I don't have a lot of time to complete this reform job and things have to get done on the "Q-T."

This product is much pricier than the ABS plastic parts but its worth the money as it is super easy to assemble and so much more durable.

The drain is by far the best on the market BUT the chrome screen very disappointing.

This shower drain is built like a Sherman tank. Nice to see that quality is still available in the plastic age.
