I bought this system from a retail store who no longer carries it and was surprised at the quality for such an inexpensive system. I use it with a creative MuVo TX FM as well as a ZEN, but my daughter has used it with her Apple Ipod nano and we were happy to find out this system plugged right into our Panasonic portable DVD that we use for a car without a built-in DVD. The DVD player's built-in speakers were horrible and this system is perfect for the DVD. The speakers run off of 4 double A batteries which actually lasts quite a while or you can use a plug-in adapter. It's perfect for portability. It also folds up into a cube, but opened or not it barely takes up space. I don't know if the black is much different as mine is white, but they appear the same. It's one of the best buys I have made. I cannot compare them to other Ipod speakers as I don't own any other. I like that it plugs into the same spot as your earphones, and that's why it worked with our DVD player. I recommend this item to anyone. It's worth it for the low price if you're trying to get a basic speaker system and you aren't worried about all the speaker frills.
