The variety of packing trunks and carrying bags for salesmen, tradesmen, bankers, doctors, and travelers that are shown here will astound you. Whether of light or heavy weight, large or small size, and specific or general purpose, they all were made with a job in mind. Taken from the pages of sales catalogs of the 1890s, these illustrations are advertising pieces to the new mail-order business. They evoke the time when objects were made to last forever, and today there are trunks and bags of these types available in the antiques market. The Price Guide reflects what their values are today. Review: Restore your antiques. - Interesting! Review: Not worth buying. - I wish I had read previous reviews before I purchased this item. Some nice photo copies from old catalogs but no information concerning manufacture, history, condition, etc. The "Price Guide" consisted of one page with a broad disclaimer and some pricing I could have guessed at my self. Not worth the money.

Pass on this book
If you are at all interested in learning about trunks, this is not your book. I ordered it as a companion guide to Morse & Edelstein's "Antique Trunks" and was extremely disappointed. The book only contained drawings of trunks (no photos), many of which looked like they had been badly copied and were so dark that it was nearly impossible to see any details. Perhaps even more annoying was that it appeared that the author focused only on one particular trunk manufacturer. After reviewing it for about 15 minutes, I just gave it away (that's how annoyed I was).
