Normal thermostat wire. Get it at lowes. black and red if u can. Multi conductor and use only black and red cap off rest.

The specification are listed on the site as I recall. Patents? Who knows. The owners manual is listed on Amazon's site. Also you can read through the reviews. The thermostat is simple by design and is only used for milivolt systems, I believe 750MV and lower but most systems would be 750MV. The only thing I didn't like about it was the temperature indicators are not real accurate. As far as compliance you would have to ask the Honeywell Company. If that is really important to you call them, they will be more then happy to speak with you. They have a very good tech department.

This is a milivolt stat to be used in milivolt applications only,such as a gas fireplace.If you are trying to replace a main stat in your home theres a good chance it is either a low voltage 12-16 volt or it is line voltage 120 volts.
