Learning MySQL and MariaDB: Heading in the Right Direction with MySQL and MariaDB 1st Edition

I am a part-time DBA, and found this book, though not big, a good reference book. Reading it with examples and clear analysis of why do things in a particular way, is helpful to get me to do database operations wisely. Highly recommend anyone interested in SQL database

As a DBA for only two years this is good resource. Our company is transitioning from MySQL to MariaDB and I use this book to show my co-workers the differences/features that we may want to consider.

You used to be able to buy Oreily books direct in PDF format. No more - kindle only. As far as I can tell, Kindle does not allow you to cut and paste code snippets.

This helped me to use PHP with MySQL.

I'm not the only one who found this, there are many feedback submitted to the book that found the same problem as mine, but the author just give no response. I'm curious about if this book has a serious review, the author did a good job at explain MySQL to beginner, but too many typos and inconsistencies in the examples, and the examples in the book is just one of the most important part, especially from Chapter 7, the example download from the author's website do not work like those in the book, that make you can not follow from there.

Una buena guia para conocer la aministración y uso de MySQL y/o MariaDB. Contiene un buen e interesante prologo de Monty Widenius el creador de ambas herramientas.

Für Anfänger ist das Buch leider nicht wirklich zu empfehlen, da schon in den ersten Kapiteln Syntax Fehler vorkommen, die man nicht erkennt, wenn man gerade mit Datenbanken anfängt. Man muss lange ergoogeln, wo der Fehler liegt, obwohl man erst die vierte oder fünfte Zeile in die commando Zeile eingibt. Hier mal ein =, da mal ein '. Es ist furstrierend und zeitaufwändig.Zusätzlich empfand ich es persönlich als eher störend, dass im Vowort und in der Einleitung über die Macher von MySQL und den Author des Buches sehr viel selbstbeweihräucherung stattfand, "ich habe noch da mitgewirkt und ich war da im Gremium und da habe die Korrekturen gemacht....".
