The Fourth Pentacle of Mercury is one of many Seals attributed to King Solomon, 2nd son of David and 3rd king of Israel, and master magician. This seal is said to help "acquire the understanding and knowledge of all things created, and to seek out and penetrate into hidden things." These seals were lifted from the "Greater Key of Solomon", a foundational grimoire of Western Esotericism that contains influences of Judaic mysticism/Kabbalah, Roman astrology and Hermetic alchemy.
"Every one knoweth in the present day that from time immemorial Solomon possessed knowledge inspired by the wise teachings of an angel, to which he appeared so submissive and obedient, that in addition to the gift of wisdom, which he demanded, he obtained with profusion all the other virtues; which happened in order that knowledge worthy of eternal preservation might not be buried with his body." [The Greater Key of Solomon (1999), Liddell & Mathers]

S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers, who was a one of the founders and True Magician of the Order of the Tiolden Dawn, translated the text of this magical textbook, The Key of Solomon the King to reveal the magical Sigils, signs and words used to control the powers of magic. Our Talisman for Wisdom consists of the Fourth Pentacle of Mercury (illustration #47 in the Key) The Key states the fourth pentacle of Mercury... This is further proper to acquire the understanding and knowledge of all things created, and to seek out and penetrate into hidden things; and to command those Spirits which are called Allatori to perform embassies. They obey very readily. Editor's Note - In the centre is the Name of God, El. The Hebrew letters inscribed about the dodecagrams make the sentence YHWH, fix Thou the Volatile and let there be unto the void restriction. The versicle is Wisdom and virtue are in his house, and the knowledge of all things remaineth with him forever. It is also said that this seal helps one to penetrate the hidden thoughts of others. This Talisman can be useful for students of any of the Arts (including the Magical), Alchemy (science) and be a great aid to Psychic Advisors. Made of high quality excelsior pewter. Double sided design. Approx. pendant size: 3.2 centimetre in diameter. Weight : 20 grams. Comes with a 2 mm flat link stainless steel chain of 22 inch length and a lead free pewter accent bead. Wear it with or without bead!
