Do you have to wait until the the dryer to charge ? I have plugged the dryer in no indicator light has come on nor does it turn on with thepowerbutton

No nothing should be charging. As soon as you plug it in you should be able to pres the power button and 60 min instantly start.

I would like to buy this product but I am a bit afraid of energy consumption. Is it energy efficient?

Outdoor line is best energy efficiency. The unit uses 1200W on the fast setting. Don't know what the other two setting use (slow and anion/ionic). T-shirts 30-60 Shirt 60-90 Sweater 120-150min Jacket 150-180 Jeans 180-240 Those are from the little manual it comes with.

Can this be used to dry boots and shoes?

Probably, but it would probably take longer than 2-3 hours, which is how long clothes take. It also uses quite a lot of electricity. Not cheap to run as advertised. I have tucked mine away now as it's massive and took up the same space as a large clothes horse. Best advice, stuff with newspaper and sit on the window sill in the sun.
