i started getting a order together on July 28 I had this product in my cart. It was a add on item for $9.99 now it has gone up to $19.99. Why?

Thank you for your inquiry. The Apple Elite Electrolytes you described are available from a number of vendors, including Mary’s Tack and Feed. It may be that your selection and retailer had a sale and simply ran out of inventory, so Amazon defaulted to another retailer with a different price. Our price for 5lb bucket of Apple Elite Electrolyte is $14.49. I hope that answered your question. Mary’s Tack and Feed

Does it contain sugar?

No sugar in Apple Elite, that's why I chose this one.

how many servings are in a 5-lb container? I'm buying for several horses. The price is right. I want to make sure I get enough for the summer months.

There are 80 ounces (80 scoops) in this container. The serving size depends on how much you feed them per day: maintenance or light exercise: 1-2 scoops light sweating (neck, under saddle): 2-3 scoops moderate sweating (whole body): 2-4 scoops heavy sweating (whole body, dripping): 3-6 scoops
