Really heavy for use as anything more than simple marching and tortoise formation - you would not try to punch with or swing this shield as a weapon. I second the review that the handle is too far back from the boss and needs to be moved closer to the inside of the shield to keep the heavy shield from leaning forward in your hand.

I finally bought this product when I saw that there were more of them ready for order, and I have to say I was super excited. I'm a big fan of the roman empire. and I've been wanting a Scutum for some time. It arrived early. (3 days early, It was supposed to be delivered the 28th, and this is the 25th.) And early in the morning at that! I was woken up after a long night shift (And not very happy about it,) then I heard my "Massive package" was here and I got extremely excited.I've got a couple of problems with the sheild, but only one of them is the fault of the company, as one of the reviewers suggest the handle is a bit far down on the shield, which makes it tilt a bit forward which is annoying, but I can deal with it for sure. The only other slight disapointment I have with the product is that it only covers from my shoulder to my knees, however I do not believe this is the fault of the company, as I am a 6'5 giant...Overall extremely happy my shield is finally here! Now to find somewhere to put it...

product suffices, but the handle should be closer to the boss. It is too far away and therefore not useful in combat unless used as a prop.If the manufacturers would model it closer to the boss, this would be as close to the original as possible.

The shield is great! But should be wood and leather, not steel.
