Can this be used as wood sealer?

Yes, linseed oil can be used a raw wood sealer but it needs to be rubbed into the surface. Rubbing will produce heat which helps the oil to penetrate the wood surface. Also know that it will take about 8-12 days for the oil to dry depending on the temperature and humidity.

Is the lid easy to open? Does it have a child safety lock cap?

As I remember it is pretty hard to open. Yes it does. But i would keep it fearther from kind. By the way also because of the specific smell. The product is not bad
