Small, feisty Siberian husky Togo—the overlooked sled-dog hero of the 1925 serum run to Nome—sets the record straight in Dog Diaries #4! When a diptheria epidemic breaks out in isolated Nome, Alaska, in January 1925, the only way to get life-saving serum to the town is by using dog-sled relay teams. Twenty teams participate, and the dog who inevitably gets credit for saving the town is Balto, lead dog on the final team which delivered the serum. But few people have ever heard of 12-year-old Togo and his musher Leonard Seppala, who carried the serum for almost double the length of any other team, and twice violated warnings to avoid perilous Norton Sound and instead ran straight over the frozen ice! With realistic black-and-white illustrations by Tim Jessell—plus an appendix with information about Siberian huskies, sled dogs, mushers, and more—Togo's tale is perfect for middle-grade readers who love a spunky underdog! Review: Perfect for a dog loving reluctant reader! - My 9 year old son is an advanced reader who doesn't particularly enjoy reading. He's at a weird stage where chapter books are either too easy and babyish or conversely the chapters are too long for him to sit through. His class is studying the Iditarod at school and doing a reading challenge to go along with it, so I thought I'd get him some books to read for the challenge. I ordered a couple and this one was the clear winner. He loved the book- choosing reading over video games!- and asked for more in the series! A win-win! Review: Historical story featuring an dog character - I bought numbers 1 to five for my 8 year old granddaughter. Excellent stories that put a different breed of dog into a historical setting

My love for a husky
I have this book a five. It was very exciting, and at times very sad. If you enjoy stories about dogs then you will love this book. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Quick story
Told from the point of view of the dog. He uses a lot of metaphors and my 9yr old was constantly asking “what does that mean?” LOL I do wish they had included more details of the diphtheria serum run, but a good read for 11ish year olds anyway.

History brought to life
My 8 year old son was thoroughly enjoying this story, but when I jumped online to pull up actual historic photos of Togo and Balto, his interest kicked into high gear. The real life story (1925 - 1,000+ mile sled dog race to bring back life saving medicine from Nome, AK for sick and dying children during a diphtheria outbreak) was amazing in itself. These dogs were truly heroic. The story is written from the perspective of the lead sled dog, Togo, and the author does a nice job of bringing the history to life for eager young readers. We give it a definite 'thumbs up'!

8 year old boy loved it
My son isn’t a big reader of chapter books, but he was familiar with this story from Disney + and he was so excited to tell me all about how it ended. He asked for other books in the series and is currently reading Dash. This is his favorite by far.
