Light Brown Henna

Ok, I guess I should start by saying I have coarse hair down to a bit past the bottom of my bottom cheeks. It had previously been colored a dark brown with red tones but that has been about two years ago so it has grown out about halfway in that time. I quit the salon dye because it was pretty expensive, and also, the salon dye made my fragile hair even worse and I wasn't having that. The rest is increasingly grey from a light/med brown. I heard about this on a youtube video and knew I had to try. I can't afford to go to a salon all the time to get roots done or the yearly complete redo. If only this could work. I made up the coloring and I made it too stiff....it really needs to be the consistency of yogurt- like a thick liquid that is just short of being able to drip. I added some water and diluted it down (but not enough even I realize). I made it, let it sit overnight and the top was black in the morning...successful dye release is what that means. I put it on my hair and because it was still to thick it was like having mud on my hair...but I made it work. I covered it with a plastic cap then bound all that up into a scarf. I let it sit 6 hours. I rinsed it out and you use CONDITIONER as an agent to get the stuff out of your hair...no shampoo. It works GREAT. I did two rounds of conditioner and it was rinsing clean again. Then I added conditioner a third time after getting out excess water best I could then put it up in a bun on my head. I stepped out of the shower, dried by body and checked my hair. Right in the front at the very base of the roots in the center had poked out of the cap and binding and had dried and not processed. So I took a finger tip and smeared a little more of the henna mixture on that spot and similar all around my hairline and I put another cap on and made sure those spots were covered. I let that sit another couple hours then rinsed out using the conditioner one more time. My hair is GREAT. It looks a light brown with faint red tones right now that strongly remind me of my younger natural color, and I'm told it will get richer in the next couple days. It also blended nicely with the existing color down on the lower half so it just kind of gradually intensifies into the darker color....I can live with that. The best thing is that it is so soft, and smooth and less prone to tangle...and that is the henna mixture because the conditioner has never done THAT on it's own, and my hair is never like that. My coarse hair strands are porous and really prone to breakage (and they are the majority of the grey right now). I hear tell that the coating this puts on the hairs helps it be stronger and I could really use that as if you look at my hair the wrong way ends just explode everywhere. I used 5 100mg bags to make the mixture.....I only used about half in actuality, and that was with it too thick. I have frozen the rest for my roots...I plan to do that about monthly. I'll just further dilute the stuff when I go to us it again. I think I'm a convert. This makes it easy and not breaking the bank to hold greys at bay and that is all I need, nothing fancy. So there were some learning curve issues. I know now what I'll do different going forward. But even if my hair stayed the exact color it is now....that would still be fine.....at least it isn't a crap ton of icky looking grey. And for that I am happy.

I was very skeptical and scared at first based on some reviews that talked about how messy the process of applying henna is, another lady showed her hair turning orange, etc. I decided to give it a try anyway because everyone's hair is different and I couldn't continue using regular store bought hair dye. It was causing me to lose my hair too much. I'm 50 yrs old and started seeing grays in my mid 40s and that's why i started to dye my hair, to hide the gray hairs. I bought hena in February of 2025 and it's now June 2025 and just now decided to write a review in hopes it will help another desperate lady like i was, who isn't ready to start showing gray hair yet. I also waited months to see if I would have any reactions to it or bad experiences before writing the review. I had followed the instructions from the package to a T and I've had no problems with it at all. No messy problems, no orange hair, nothing! The only downside for me is the long 3 hour you have to keep the henna on your hair before rinsing, but it's worth it. I rather use this. Waiting 3 hours is nothing if it's the sacrifice to not lose your hair. If you put Vaseline along your hairline, you will not get any stains. The mix needs to look like a pancake mix, not too thick ,not too watery. This will prevent the henna from dripping as well. They recommend to use coffee to mix and apple cider vinegar too, if you're trying to cover grays. I did just that and it worked for me. I have been dying my hair every 3 weeks, and so far it's helping me cover my greys good. Another good tip is to wrap your hair with a towel during the dying process. I tried it with and without the towel, and the results are much better when I had the towel on. The essential oil it's optional for me, it's just to help with the smell basically. Stick to the instructions, and good luck. I hope it helps as much as it has helped me.

I've been using this hair dye for years to cover my gray hair. I always buy the same shade, a reddish brown. However, this time the color turned out completely black. I still have 10 unopened boxes, and I can even get my money back or return them because I still had some left over from last purchase and I didn't get a chance to use new batches till now. The new batch dye suppose to be reddish brown but it turned black color and won't out. I even bleached my hair twice trying to fit it, and now my hair is badly damaged. I'll have to grow it out and cut if off. I am very unhappy with this color. I ordered the exact same shade I've always purchased, so I believe something is wrong with this batch. Now I don't know what to do with this 10 unopened batches. I threw away $200.00

So I will give you 100% non biased feedback based on my own experience. I have fine hair and have been using box dye in light brown for a while. I used this product because I'm very familiar with henna but never actually used it before now. Here's the outcome. For light brown color, DO NOT use apple cider vinegar in the mix. Stick to black coffee and about 5 or 6 drops of lavender added to the mix. After you blend all these with the henna, let it set for 45 minutes, covered. Once the time is up, apply to your hair starting at the roots. I know the packaging says from tips up but if you have stubborn grays, I suggest you apply from roots down. Just my opinion. Don't worry about being nice and neat in application as you can simply smear it all over your hair and then gently "shampoo it" all over your hair. Once the hair is completely saturated and evenly distributed, pile your hair on your head (use a small clip if you need it) and put the shower cap on. I used the gloves to apply but because the mixture is somewhat thick (like mud) the gloves kept slipping off so I took them off and used my bare hands. You can use tighter gloves too, if you have them. Wait 3 hours to rinse your hair on cool water. You can use conditioner after thoroughly rinsing your hair but not shampoo. Avoid shampooing for 48 hours after application to allow the henna to oxidize and bring out the final color. My color turned out a beautiful garnet reddish brown and although I loved the color, there was too much reddish tone but that's because I added apple cider vinegar to the mixture and because the light brown contains indigo, it reacted; indigo hates apple cider vinegar! If you reapply too soon, it will darken the color and if you need to touch up roots, apply only to roots. If you do an all over application it will be different shades from root to tip. Overall I love the product and color. I will need to reapply simply because I added the apple cider vinegar last time which gave me the reddish tones but this time I will leave that out and just mix black coffee and lavender.

My hair feels so healthy after! Color fades out so well too!

I've used henna off and on for my hair for a few years now and full-time for my color option for the last year. I have primarily mixed my own and in doing so, have had to mix my henna and indigo separately, so it takes more time. I've tried different kinds of henna brands, but thought I could save myself some time in getting a brand that is ready to mix and use as is, instead of creating my own recipe. Granted, this one is a little lighter than I am used to, but it states that it will darken on hair that has already been treated with henna. It did not darken. It did cover my grays with a nice light brown for about two days, then a few days later, my grays looked light blonde, so it faded very quickly even though I only ran clear water through my hair as the directions indicate, instead of washing it. I thought this brand would work great because it's so much pricier per ounce than mixing my own and had some good reviews. I tried it and it just isn't worth it when I have to retreat my hair less than a week later. When I mix my own, I normally don't have to treat it again for at least three weeks. Maybe a darker color would work better, but this lighter brown color is just not for me. It might be a good segue into henna on naturally lighter hair though; that way you could see if you like the process and turnout.

It saved my hair from chemical hair dyes. My hair is light brown, and light brown henna looks like it's my natural hair color.

Love this, which there was something even lighter, it makes some of my hair almost black.
