PrestaShop Module Development

I've been working with Magento for several years and now I decided to take a look over PrestaShop. After having tips here and there, via internet tutorials, I bought this book. I really recommend it as I could learn a lot. Fabien Serny explains everything in a easy way, doesn't waste our time and cover almost every topic you need to know on PrestaShop modules development. PS: just to make it clear, if you are looking for installation and themes development, this is not the right book for you.

Excellent book !

Prestashop documentation is an area that needs improvement and this book is a much needed help. It follows a very practical approach and guides to the development of some useful custom modules with source code commentary and some insights to the general Prestashop architecture, the book is well written and concise. It helped me to get a better confidence with the platform and gave a boost to the development of a custom module I'm working to. Here are the chapters: Table of Contents Preface 1. Many people have tried and document the making of a module for PrestaShop, but it's not an easy task to take on. Fabien Serny chose an interesting angle and takes you step-by-step through the development of a PrestaShop module, starting with the very basic so it's accessible to beginners too.

Gekauft habe ich mir dieses Buch als Ebook, da es hier weniger als die Hälfte der Druckausgabe gekostet hat. Skeptisch war ich, ob der Inhalt wirklich die Themen der Modulentwicklung für Prestashop ausreichend behandelt. Insgesamt bin ich sehr zufrieden mit dem Buch. Die ersten Kapitel widmen sich der Entwicklung eines Beispielmoduls. Dabei geht der Autor sehr methodisch vor. Es wird mit dem grundlegenden Aufbau des Modulrumpfes angefangen. Schritt für Schritt wird dann auf weitere Konzepte eingegangen und das Beispielmodul immer weiter ausgebaut. Das Tempo ist überschaubar und die Beispiele sind sehr anschaulich. Es wird auf Hooks eingegangen, auf Overrides, auf die Übersetzungstechnik. Weiter hinten im Buch gibt es ein Kapitel, das auf die speziellen Versand-Module eingeht. Und noch weiter hinten, geht der Autor auf Payment-Module ein. Den Abschluss bildet dann die Multishop-Fähigkeit. Was in diesem Buch nicht behandelt wird, sind die neuen Dashboard-Module. Hier ist also noch Potenzial für eine Folgeauflage. Insgesamt bin ich mit dem Buch sehr zufrieden. Auch ohne die Behandlung der Dashboard-Module ist dieses Buch lohnenswert; insbesondere das Ebook, zum halben Preis der Druckausgabe.

Quizá algo más superficial de lo esperado, pero sin duda con él se aprende a desarrollar módulos

Great book for learning how to create your own modules. There are a few mistakes in the book.

Même si je pense que l'on peut se dem****r avec bon tuto sur le web et en regardant le code, j'ai donc claqué une somme indécente pour ce bouquin, mais mon développeur à l'air de trouver cela interessant. Au final ça fait le job, ce dernier se sent donc obligé de le lire et de progresser, car il m'a contrarié.

Non ho ancora terminato la lettura ma in poche pagine mi ha permesso di comprendere la logica nell'esecuzione dei moduli in prestashop, della realizzazione della parte view, quindi dopo un paio di capitoli ho realizzato un modulo di amministrazione per il recupero di un xml con dati del DB. Niente di complesso ma è solo l'inizio..
